Help with Hummingbird

Again, thank you all!  I tried “liking” some of your comments but the iPhone ux doesn’t seem to offer that capability.

Attached is a photo of my daughter from Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI this past summer.  She says thanks to all who offered advice.  We’ll be in Nashville this weekend and headed to the Gibson Garage for her to play as many different models of the Bird as possible.

I may be a bit late to the party but the '93-97 Hummingbirds were long scale. Sometime in '97 they switched to the 24.9", excuse me 24.75" scale. That might seem insignificant until she flies the two versions. Best of luck on the hunt!

The short scale is a HUGE plus to the 'Birds.... I'd make sure any 'Bird I bought was short scale.

Ok everyone… after playing probably 100 different guitars across 12 states we finally made a purchase!  She loved the tone of the HBird but loved more the neck of the Dove.  It was a tough choice for her so we searched high and low for a Dove that her ear fell in love with and finally found a 2012 Doves in Flight at Carter Vintage in Nashville while we happened to be in town recording!  She’s over the moon.  Thanks to all of you who took the time to comment and help!

Wow - she sure knows how to find a start altitude. Hope it survives the gigs waiting ahead - an extra set of eyes will be needed.

But all in all great, , , in fact sensational !🎉´

If she is serious about playing, wants the bird, it feels and sounds good to her, and the price is feasible, get the bird.  For one thing, she’ll get more serious about  playing and will likely play more.  …..There are lots of great guitars out there, but there is truly something special about a Gibson Humming.  It’s an awesome guitar to have on your lap at a gig or just picking at home.  She will be proud to own it, because it’s a Hummingbird. ……As far as tone/sound are concerned, it all depends on who is listening.

Don't think it ended on a H-bird, M-Picker.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    The young girl fell for a Doves in Flight.

I fell in love with a Doves In Flight as I was looking for a J-200 with natural Maple back & sides.

I stumbled on a 2003 DIF with Natural Maple back & sides, (so far, the ONLY one I've ever seen!).

Congratz on a great guitar purchase....she'll love it.... and as Em7 said.... she'll have to keep a close eye on it..... guitars tend to get 'lost' while loading and unloading gear.

We lost a 1963 Sunburst Strat while loading the van at a Chuck Berry gig we played.... was loaded in the van, went back inside to grab the Bandmaster amp, and the guitar walked away!

SG-- good luck in your hunt.  My pov is you really cant go wrong with recent builds, even past 08.

Quick word about the 90s Gibsons from the MT shop.   The first 2 years there (91-92) were primo (my SJ45 from that period is case in point).   There is said to be  some slippage 93-95 (new manager?)  Things improved around 97-97 ("early' serie),  steady course since.
