FirstMeasure
I used to play along with Best of Cream SRV - Couldn't Stand The Weather Zep - Song Remains the Same (When it was on VHS) Pink Floyd - Delicate Sound of Thunder (also VHS) John Mayall - "Turning Point" and "The Beano Album" Little Feat - Waiting For Columbus then I used to make mixed tapes I would play along with. I don't play along with records much anymore, just to learn a song or a part.
Homz
I can honestly say I never play along with any albums. In fact I never have. I guess that's what I like about our band the most. We do covers. We never, ever, ever listen to the song and try to do what they do. Yes we have the basic chords and follow the frame work of most songs, but that's it. After a while when you hear the song on the radio you think either, we suck, or sometimes you say "we do that better". It keeps everything fresh. I think the only song I have ever tried to play note for note is "Whole Lotta Love". Every time we play it I feel all pressured to get it perfect. I don't play to feel pressure, so I am glad we don't do that for more then the one song. of course there are those that might say what we do sucks. That's fine with me. The only thing that matters is how we feel about what we do. I like it.
FirstMeasure
That approach only sucks if you do it poorly. I have more faith in you than that, Holmz.
