Slimpsy Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 The only thing that really stood out to me was the serial number is very very hard to read as it's highly lacquered. . but I've read this is common with newer Les Pauls of this finish. Also after removing the back plate the electronics are stamped Gibson. . which is good, right?? But the wood is a very roughish finish (not very smooth on the inside). . is this normal for newer gibsons?? It's a Les Paul Standard, made in 2008 with OHSC, but not the new 2008's It's a plus top model with desert burst finish, 60's style neck I'm 99% sure it's real. I gave 1300 for it, so I'm hoping it's real! Serial#: (removed) Pics: (some wear on the back from gig play. . which is why i'm hoping i got a "good deal"
dem00n Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Your guitar was made at the Nashville Plant, TN, USA April 29th, 2008 Production Number: 241 I think its real..
Slimpsy Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 I feel it's real. They sure don't make them like they used to though. It also feels lighter than older models. . what's the reason for this? I know it's not a newer chambered. . . atleast I don't think it is.

dmeds Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 From the numerous threads I've read on LP Standards, Gibson started chambering from 2007. It's very likely that your LP feels lighter because it is chambered. Follow this thread; it's very informative. http://forums.gibson.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=18137
GuitarJunkie Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 It's real, and at 1300 bucks it was a pretty good deal too.
elantric Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Real And yes - the control cavity route looks a mess with rough wood - this is correct for the Gibson Nashville guitars.
VBB Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 That price does seem very good. Nice git tar! If they're not made in Nashville, where are the other ones made? Are they better quality at one place over the other? And what's with this R9 I keep hearing about? What is it, and why is it talked about like the next big thing?
dmeds Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 R9 = 1959 Les Paul Historic Reissue VOS. Follow this link: http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-Custom/50th-Anniversary-1959-Les-Paul-Standard.aspx Be careful that it does not lure you with it's intoxicating spell. If/when it does, life will never be the same!
Tim Plains Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Slimpsy, it's 100% real and 100% chambered. You should edit your original post and remove the serial number. Some people worry about their s/n being used on counterfeit Les Pauls. Nice guitar.
Slimpsy Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 Thanks for the replies! I feel alot better about it...guess I just got paranoid. The price was lower due to excessive gig wear...quite a bit of belt rash and several minor dents. Is it possible to have these fixed to original finish?
rocketman Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Wow, $1,300 for an '08. Great deal!! Fine looking guitar too. Congrats...

I'm pretty sure the quality is the same at both plants, but Nashville models seem more common, but maybe it's just coincidence.

Tim Plains Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 ^ It doesn't work on Custom Shop guitars. http://www.guitardaterproject.org/
