HeadCase
I like mine... But, to be honest, I haven't spent a lot of time w/ it yet. But so far so good... Sounds pretty damn good as is but sounds better w/ a 4x12 cab, but what doesn't? I almost think the Jet City 20W Head (Soldano / $299) sounds better though... But then again... [/quote'] HC, have you tried using the headphone out trick so you can redline it and play at bedroom volume? Found it here - http://marshallvintagemodern.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=3794 Sounds like a great workaround.Check it out and let me know how you go. I've just ordered mine, was even able to talk the seller down a bit too which was a bonus.

Yes, I've used the "headphone out" trick into my Vintage Modern cabinet and it works / sounds great. Glad you posted the link for others to see, it really is a cool option. As great as the amp sounds this way, I'm mostly playing straight through the combo. I want the speaker to get a little "broken in". Good luck w/ yours. Lowdown
I LOVE this little combo! This thing kicks arse man. No way is this a bedroom amp though. I'm in the process of doing a couple of mods to it. Mainly the volume/speaker headphone mod. Anyone having doubts about getting this - rest assured, this is a great little amp! You won't be let down...

[/quote'] I played one about a month ago and fell in love with the Class5, that being said I played the Jet City and it blew me away! The one thing I really like about it is the sensitivity of the gain control that allows you to go from clean to crunch, to a nice distortion. I can't wait to pick one up soon
Lowdown
Oh man. These amps are the bees knees! I'm loving this thing! Beautiful creamy cleans and stinging sweet overdriven sounds...LOVELY! And...no rattles...

Both this one and the Jet City will be among those I will check out when going tubes...
HeadCase
I almost think the Jet City 20W Head (Soldano / $299) sounds better though... But then again... I like both amps a lot, one's more vintage - one's more modern. With a tiny bit of O.D. I'm getting a great Page type thing going w/ the Class 5. Fun! Lowdown
Well I've just done the full speaker by-pass mod. Disconnected internal speaker wiring and re-did it as a 1/4/ jack from the celestion so I can tap into the ext. for normal volume or plug into the headphone socket for redlining and playing at bedroom volume. Very nice & tasty! That little 10" speaker is surprising. Compliments the amp well. Ideal,I think. My poor old 800 must be feeling a bit left out of the loop. Anybody having reservations about getting one of these will not be disappointed. Trust me.
Lowdown
HC,did you try the mainline mod or just tap into the ext. speaker out? Didn't have 100% success rate with what Steve from Marshall suggested doing re. using a TRS jack. Still had to back it off 1/2 way. Strange. Thought it woulda worked myself too...Posted a question on the Vintage Forum but ain't heard squat yet...
HeadCase
I plugged my speaker cable into the headphone jack, pulled it half way out then selected "headphones". It works great, nice bedroom levels... There's not a lot of traffic on the VM Forum. Steve D. usually chimes in though.
