suburude63
What do you guys think of Gibsons "Blues King" Are they a good little box ? Does anyone have one ? Reviews?
jefleppard
i've played many. i love 'em. that boxy spring to each note is to die for. they just stike you immediately as a great blues guitar (though i am, admittedly, the whitest guy alive and what i know about the blues couldn't fill a thimble). great projection, too. not a guitar you can really dig into but that's not what they're for. if you strum, it should be light because they're very responsive. a guy here in town has one and its everybody's favourite. quite simply, they're very fun to play. Paul E
I love mine. It's a 2008 model and it really sings for a little guitar.
Hoss
I have the ultimate Gibson Blues Guitar-- an old roundhole L4. Very sweet when lightly fingerpicked, it picks up a bright, bluesy edge when you lean on it. Very Cool Strung with light strings, it went from having an archtop sound (with mediums) to a killer blues guitar. I believe that Eric Clapton described his old Roundhole L4 as the one guitar he regretted selling.
Taylor Player
The couple I have played were very nice but a bit too contemporary. When I play my old LG1, I hear vintage blues that can only come from old ladder braced wood... when I play a blues king, I hear contemporary blues. Hope that makes sense. aymeric22
To me better for flatpicking than fingerpicking...not enough brightness for that.
suburude63
Is the Blues King a X braced or Ladder?
Rambler
X-brace. Mahog b/s, 25.5 scale down to 06, then 24.5 bubinga. Nothing to get excited about. The hogs are bright and tight, nothing like an old L00 or copies like the Greven. The bubs are 'mellower" but heavy. They also did a deep body version (ala a Nick Lucas). The extra depth took away from the dry bite you for fingerpicking but still too bright for a strummer. I liked the one I had best for btottleneck and single line runs fwiw. Modac
I think they're the worst reissues Montana has done. If they cost 300 dollars, it would be one thing----but for the money they cost, there are innumerable cheap plywood guitars that'll do the same thing for you. A big thumbs down. modoc_333
Taylor Player and Modac have both nailed it perfectly.

Rambler
Curious. The EL-00 is 24.75 on hog. Closer to vintage specs than the Gibson std. The heck? Oth, specs dont specify solid back, so b/s may be laminate. Why doesnt the brain trust at The Mother Ship come out with an L00TV and Get It Done. CAMELEYE
I've had every one of the several models Gibson has come out with recently and years ago, an original. That was the One. The newer ones are OK, but nothing like an original, nothing. Ce
