GuitarJunkie
A Standard gloss finish has 8 coats of lacquer and it's buffed to a much higher gloss. The faded LPs only have 3 coats and a lot less buffing (therefore less labor = less money). They both show the woodgrain although on the higher gloss, sometimes the finish "enhances" the grain more (brings out more flame or gives it a 3-D effect). LPDEN
And then there is the VOS finish which gives an aged look and feel, along with the hardware. Some don't like it, I personally love the look, feel and overal aura of it.
