Hthomas
What are some good metranome practices for guitar playing?
Artie Owl
Using your "metronome" play a scale at a comfortable tempo, then gradually increase the tempo until you can't keep up, try it with arpeggios and differnt modes of scales as well, great excercise. In time you'll become much faster and more confident. -Brandon
zigzag
Particularly when site reading a new piece of music, it is most effective to learn the song at a very slow tempo, e.g. 70 bpm. Once learned, it makes it much easier to speed up.

Shnate McDuanus
The exercise that I've been using for months now is this: take a scale/mode/arpeggio and play it along the circle of fifths, playing each one at the same consistent tempo. This exercise can train you for speed and precision, and can also vastly improve your interval recognition skills. From personal experience I can say that it has worked very well for me. YMMV. Good luck.
