Gibson Days; a Result of our complaining?

Gibson Days

(scroll down to July 31st events for "Gibson Days")

I don't know how new this is, but I saw it on their twitter feed, apparently you can get a free t-shirt for "test driving a Gibson" at participating dealers. Now, that seems to me like a genuine response to the community's demand for more free swag that has been a thread on here numerous times. Thoughts?

I've seen Fender do the same thing. I doubt it has any relation to the "swag" requests.

I'm sure these are just a bunch a mass produced cheap T shirts. They can take inventory of how many were given away to gauge interest in their products. Plus when all those people wear the shirts out in public, it's cheap advertising for Gibson.

Thanks Brandon. Gibson Days is one way Gibson strives to show our customers and dealers they are appreciated. We encourage players to ask their local Gibson dealers to participate in Gibson Days events.

No worries, just thought I'd share, though I called Long and McQuade here in Halifax and I don't believe they are taking part, of course, things are always harder for us Canucks to get when it comes to promotions haha. I'll keep an eye and ear out for anything up here though.

After reading my first post, it seems that I came off kind of cynical toward Gibson. That wasn't my intent.

I just didn't think Gibson Day had any relation to the swag requests. It's kind of a win-win situation for Gibson and their customers. (or potential customers)

What's wrong with a win-win? Yes, t-shirts are advertising, but then anything with a brand on it that others see you with technically is. If a company is willing to give it to you without making you pay to be a billboard I'm all for it.

In fact, it'd be pretty rad if all newly purchased Gibson guitar's serial numbers came with a term discount on OEM Gibson stuff. Like, buy an SG or an LP and register the serial number, get a percentage off merchandise, or equipment. (also make it retroactive to at least 2010 Serial numbers, that would be awesome)

But just like any other company they have to make money. No money means no more guitars, so c'est la vie.

I'm all for keeping Gibson going and surviving! T-shirts seem OK, but the guitar lessons from Alan Roth and others are a great way to show off appreciation to people who already own a Gibson! I've talked to countless people on the web who visit it. It was suppose to be updated one a week.

Is there any way you can add another tank of gas and update the Alan Roth section or is it out of steam?

Either way it was a great thing Gibson did for it's people!

Wonder if it's like the Gibson "Bus" event at local Sam Ash last year.

I took my son and his SG (along with my old lg-12) to a bus event last year.

Gibson's tech did a free-bee check up, clean up and restring (your choice of Gibson strings) on my son's SG. He, and one of the Sam Ash guys, spent quite a bit of time chatting with my son then tossed him a couple of Gibson/Sam Ash T-shirts along with a hat.

The techie wasn't prepared for 12 strings- (Sam Ash guy offered up, my choice, Martin Phosphor-Bronze strings for the change- gratis), so he tossed in an extra set of, my son's choice, vintage re-issue strings. Sam Ash guy tossed me the Martin strings for the lg-12.

There's nothing wrong with a win-win. That's why I felt the need to clarify that I wasn't trying to be cynical or criticise Gibson for doing it.

That develops customers! A little give can create a lot of return! I wish they would do something like that around Denver, but we are stuck with GC and that will never happen! For them customer appreciation days for them is telling you to come down and spend money, they appreciate that!

I don't usually wear advertisements, but I have bought and worn Gibson T Shirts and sweatshirts. Gibson is one brand name I can wear with pride due to personal experience! I'd take wear a free shirt too, but I never see any local places including themselves in Gibson Day and don't plan to be in an area where a participating store is/was (wasn't this today?). I remember seeing a Gibson trailer parked at a NJ hotel about 10 years ago. I wondered what the story was on the inside of that. It looked like a touring display set up. I wonder if anything like that's at particular stores for Gibson Days.

Just got back, from "Gibson Days" at E.M. Shorts, in Wichita! Got to see a lot of Gibson and Epi guitars,

and play a bunch, that I'd wanted to "test drive," as well as check on the status, of my '50's Tribute Gold Top.

No firm date, as of yet, on the Gold Top, but I was told they would "definitely" be getting them, for sure.

(They had their orders in, in March...well before the flooding.) Now, if I had only won the lottery, I could have

purchased both of my other "bucket list dream (Gibson) guitars," as they had both the ES-345 (Vintage Cherry)

and the VOS Historic, SG w/Maestro Vibrola, hanging right next to one another. Talk about tempting!!!! Nice

Store, full of Gibson's and Epi's. Played a Inspired by John Lennon Casino (Revolution)...NICE! Great build quality,

flawless finish (on this one, at least), and amazing tone! Also picked around, a bit, on the Epi Inspired by "Texan,"

and a J-45, and Advanced Jumbo! All, were very nice, indeed! The "Texan" is a STEAL....IMHO. If the one I had

played, had been a "Natural" finish, I probably would have brought it home. ;>b

And, Yes...I did get a (Free) Gibson T-shirt. Nice (heavier) quality (Black) with good silk-screened (white) lettering.

So, it was a good trip/day, all around.

Did anyone else go? I worked the whole day with a broken chair so all I could do was stand around my fish tank and say "no I don't have any iPhone 4's left they launched in Canada yesterday, what did you expect?". I would have loved to have gone to a Gibson days thing instead.
