Anyone extremely familiar with The Guess Who?

If so, I have a question for you.

I heard a song by them a while ago on the radio, and I can't for the LIFE of me find it anywhere... The only part I remember was that it had a part where the piano did a sort of scale run with Burton singing along with it... Like a fast major scale kind of deal... i know its really vague, but I can picture it in my head and thats the best way I can describe it...

Anyways, yeah, any input would be MUCHO appreciated...

Also, feel free to comment about anything in regards to the Guess Who... Just to make things interesting

Thanks a ton

Ty

Well, you did say feel free to comment....

I liked one song by The Guess Who and that was Shakin' All Over in 1965. Killer version and still love it. This is pre-Burton Cummings Guess Who though. I never cared for the Burton Cummings era band. His voice just grated on me, and I'm no conservative but American Woman just drove me up the frikkin' wall. I wouldn't have minded it from a US band actually but to hear Canadians ragging on the US was just silly and oh so calculated for the times. As if we needed the Canadians to accept us. But, they knew how to write a good pop song and make lots of money - gotta give them credit for that.

Sorry I can't help you with the song though - I tried to think of something but Burton's voice kept interrupting me.

Can't help with the song, as that's pretty vague. But if you've got iTunes, you can head over to the iTunes store and preview songs till you hit the one you're after. If it was on the radio it's bound to be on one of the "Greatest Hits" compilations.

I don't mind The Guess Who at all, though I'e always been more partial to BTO.

Randy Bachman is such an overlooked guitar player. His Jazz runs are wonderfull and he plays quite a diverse amount of riffage. His Guess Who work is haunting at times. His BTO work has some real gems as well besides the usual radio played ones. 4 Wheel Drive baby!

Albert Flasher......maybe???

These lyrics sound like it?

I was a workshop owner in the gulch for the people

And I offered myself to the world

I was a workshop owner

I was a workshop owner

I was a diesel fixer, fixed a diesel, diesel fixed me

What a weasel

And baby was a workshop owner

Baby was a workshop owner

Baby and me were ripe for the pickin'

That was the day we ran into Albert Flasher

It was a cold, snowy, rainy afternoon

And we were sittin' there in high school, my school

And Michael was a moonbeam maker

And Michael was a moonbeam maker

I was a diesel fixer, fixed a diesel, diesel fixed me

What a weasel, oh no

Baby was a workshop owner

Baby was a workshop owner

Baby and me were ripe for the pickin'

That was the day we ran into Albert Flasher

Ya, I love Randy's style of playing. I saw him a couple of years ago here in Ottawa

bought his CD. My favourites by him are: Lookin out for Number One (nice jazz

solo) and Takin' Care of Business, which I would guess would be his signature

song. My favourite Bachman-Turner Overdrive tune is "Blue Collar Worker",

he does some neat wah pedal riffs there and his licks are pretty cool.

As far as Burton Cummings..probably "These Eyes" "Laughin'" ," She's come Undun",

and "No time left for you"..where Randy does some Strat style wailin;

As far as "American Woman" ..Hey, it's just a song, perhaps a bit critical, but don't forget

that Lenny Kravitz (New York born) did it as well and that song won him a

Grammy in 2000.

...ah so many good musicians to imitate, so little time left to do it.

"Grey Day"

Outside chance "Dreams" from the Power In The Music album.

I hope these help.
