Out of case?

So' date=' I'm taking my fearless Jack Russel for a walk and about 50 yards out she spots a dog in front of us. She's pulling me to get to it and I'm hangin' on, and we meet up with this very docile animal. Does it look like a Ridgeback to you? She was in dire need of water, so I turned back to the house and fed and watered her...........J

I am by no means an expert on dogs, but I had a golden lab that looked just exactly like that back in the 70's. Name him Acapulco Gold and he was one of the mellowest dogs I have even had. Nice looking dogs Jepi and Biff. Lately we have been getting dogs from the humane society and they have made excellent pets.

Just had this discussion with a friend. . .

I'm all for leaving them out. Don't have an extensive collection though. I have a couple on stands' date=' a couple hanging on the wall. When the mood strikes they are right there for me to play. I can run through a song or two, practice a riff or whatever and then just set 'em back in the rack. If I had to get 'em out of the case everytime I probably wouldn't play as much.

And guitars really can be works of art. They look good hanging on the wall or sitting out in their stands. It also adds to the vibe of my music room/office. Just makes me want to play more. . .

Same here. I work from my home office/music rooom and all 5 (soon to be 6 next week) are out on stands. No kids to worry about, so no issue there. I find myself playing little 5 - 15 minute sessions during the day quite often just as a diversion from what I'm working on, and I try to pick up a different guitar each time.

Same goes for my daily "regular" practice session; I like comparing different sounds from different guitars/amps, etc.

I just know if they were not accessible I wouldn't be playing nearly as much (went through that years ago when the kids were little!).

All that said, they never leave the house unless inside a hard case.

A little OT but hey' date=' it's a slow night..

The Ridgeback, Tumba, is about the average size for a male RR and I'm only 175 lbs but when he's pissed, playful or sleeps beside you (read: on top of you) he is a force to be reckoned with. He runs 100 yards under 10 seconds or even faster if you have a rabbit or something else to eat waiting at the finish line, so when I go out running with him in the forests nearby - once or twice a day - he usually gets to run free...

I keep mine in cases most of the time because I simply don't have enough room to store cases and guitars.

Unless I'm playing one of them constantly, they go in the case when I'm done.

I have hardshells for my two expensive guitars, and gigbags for the cheaper ones.

Casino and Fender Strat go in the hard cases, Squier Strat and Fullerton acoustic go in bags.

I also have a vintage (1966) Gibson acoustic case that doesn't have a guitar. The case was given to me, but I still haven't been able to convince the owner to sell me the guitar. It's a 1966 Gibson LG-0... it could use a little work, but it'll be worth it.

The ones I play periodically usually live on a stand. The others stay in a case. As long as the temp and humidity are fairly constant, I don't worry. Music stores keep all their stock out where you can see it. Those in the back room in boxes don't sell unless one is out to attract attention (grin). I think they are safer on a wall hanger than a stand. I always look for a stand location on stage where people aren't going to walk by and catch it with a sleeve or brush against it.
