supersoldier71
I'm trying to get the back plate off the amp. I removed all the screws but the sucker won't budge and I really don't want to break anything. Are there other screws inadditon to the ones on the back panel itself. And once I get the panel off, the swapping tubes seems realtively straight-foward. Is there anything I need to be aware of?
cGil
Yeah, they put the back panel on the cab while the tolex glue is still wet. Use a putty knife or screwdriver to break the glue between the seams. Then use it against the chassis for leverage to help wedge the back panel out. Be careful with the 'ears' on the back. There's actually a video on that subject now. It might help. http://www.soundgaragetales.com/epiphone-vj-mods/epiphone-valve-junior-removing-the-chassis Gil... supersoldier71
I'm looking to clean up my tone and hopefully add a little more clean headroom. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good 12AX7 tube to accomplish these?
Eracer_Team
switch to a lower gain tube like a 12au7 instead.. also switching R6/R7 resistors changes the gain structure probably use 100k/100k instead of the 1meg units that are in it now. That should clean you up a bit
Steven Lister
I'm looking to clean up my tone and hopefully add a little more clean headroom. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good 12AX7 tube to accomplish these? Did exactly that with a Tung Sol reissue 12AX7/ECC803S gold pin + a JJ EL84. Also' date=' bought a 5751 to try but have liked those reissue Tung Sol ECC803S versions so well, I've yet to bother. Hit every BLUE NOTE baaaby..., I'm going to play on:-"
