TWANG Posted January 11, 2009 Share Posted January 11, 2009 not quite finished. smooth the edges yet. the plastic is still on so it looks funkier than it really is. black lines don't show in first pic but do show all around. center piece is a tad long. I make 'em that way on purpose so the user can fit it more precisely to his guitar. I thought white wouldn't look good. but I think otherwise, now. How about you? TWANG Posted January 12, 2009 Author Share Posted January 12, 2009 I've had one guard returned.. the hole didn't match at the neck position. On other guitars, I've found it's best to keep things very tight...that way they can get a part to part touching by just shaving a bit of guard off themselves.. only takes a minute or three. pickup spacing seems to be the thing, and I think that's just because these are mass produced mounting rings as much as the actual carving for them. I usually do the bracket hole, and leave the neck hole for the customer. That way we can be positive it will fit tight. Same with strats. Two areas that are of concern there are the neck pocket and the pickup routes. I have at least two different sized strat pickup covers, both plastic, and my last guard sent still needed a bit of shaving for what he had. And the neck pocket, well it's just smart. A strat guard covers a lot of the neck body joint.. touching on three sides.. and I really don't like a gap there so I a little shaving beats an ugly space. That one's really for a dot. But I don't have a dot so I showed it on the sheri. I think the cream binding contrasts too much with the white. But I thought it looked better than I imagined. [/quote'] Nobody is quite sure why the guys on the EpiWiki site got booted from here (other than their promoting that site), so they aren't really a group of malcontents or misfits. Actually, some of them were truly helpful guys with a lot of good information. I find the other site hard to read and navigate, from a format standpoint. As for the Foob, he is the only guy who seems to be saying that Twang is dishonest or unsavory. Others here have had good transactions with him. I'm about to get four Gibson-style pickguards from him for the Sheraton. Twang has been pretty transparent in letting the forum know when he made an error last month. I've had guys mess up their guards.. and send them back.. and I replaced them at no charge. I've had guys send back a color they didn't like, and ruined the finish, and I replaced them at no charge and just ate the ruined guard. I've had guys return their guard because the screw holes wouldn't match.. which nobody realized.. and I replaced them and again, ate the loss. I stick by people who have dealt with me. the errors are typically thier mistakes, not mine, or differences in epis that none of us are aware of. I spent a lot of time today doing that sheraton modification, and corrected a misconception we all shared, and was really happy to pass along the information as it's been an ongoing problem for korean sheri owners. The only bummer in the whole process has been one guy. And he's gotten booted from here, and from epiwiki. And he's relentless in both is unreasonable attitude, and childish behavior. He did tell his story in here. and after being booted, everyone let it drop. But he, ricmon99, is obsessed. I'm not paranoid. The guy wont stop. If you say I'm paranoid because I believe a handle like ricmon99 can't possibly be coincidental when used in the same negative and juvenile fashion in the same forum as where the problem started, and in the same manner as my previous emails and pms, I think you need to get a dictionary and look up the word. Some time ago the moderators in here were considerably tougher on off topic, non epi, non gibson, posts, and on a few other matters. Some members got booted. But since then, many have come back, another forum is open, it's mention is not taboo and the moderators have been generally quite benign. In this case, I've only one concern. And that is that fubar/ricmon99 leave my posts and me alone, as I do him. I haven't interfered or made negative comments except in reply to him, and never will. Frankly, I don't believe he'll ever stop. He's having too much fun in his fantasy of power over others. You all included. It's a neurotic temperament in my view, and sadly very much in need of the monitors of old. He believes that every single time any sort of controversy is begun in any thread concerning me, it will produce some negative effect with enough people for him to be happy to have struck out. I realize i'd be blocked by some, for my tendency to "wax nostalgic" and/or show off pics of my guitars..........but thats a price i'd definitely be willing to pay.
