TWANG Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I'm working on a strat build. and can't decide which trem looks best on it.. I like them both for playing... which style do you like? I tend toward the contemporary.. pic 2. But I sort of wanted this guitar to be a 'working/class' theme. That is, a working mans guitar, but with a little class. It's a parchment guard.. still have to decide if I'll use parchment pup covers.. chrome hardware. Really nice brazilian mahogany.. and a rosewood board with a lot of color, not shown. The thing is.. I've mocked it up and it looks fantastic no matter which way I do it.. but I'm a little stumped for the look of the trem.. as you can see in pic one, that's a bit more industrial look.. while the second is less busy. TWANG
duane v Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 go by performance, if performance is a wash between the two, then what looks better... I like the way the second one pictured looks
stan 58 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 The second one has sides on it to keep the six saddles from moving. It looks like the PRS trem. I'd go with that one. Stan.
TWANG Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 the first one is supposed to be. according to some.. a better version.. but I've only used the second one in builds.. so I dunno.. I know I've liked that second one, the contemporary a lot so far. No problems, good look, a lot of metal.. they're both steel block. I guess I will have to give them both a try, but I expect performance to be so close.. it's probably going to come down to look. Part of the reason I ask is that too often I build what I like.. and I'm starting to doubt my personal taste! TWANG
duane v Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 So TWANG are your guitars that you build considered American made??? And have you ever though about building a Tele (rosewood fret-board) with CC pups???
Emetry Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I think that the second looks better. I'm not a big fan of the "unfinished" look that the first has, but given the theme you're after, that should probably be the one you go with.
djroge1 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 What type of tuners are you putting on? If you're going with vintage klusons then perhaps the first. If you're using something up-to-date looking (sperzals, gotoh, steinberger etc...) go with the 2nd.
lostindesert Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 The second(vintage) looks the best imho. Peter
IntelligentAl Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 If they are both very similar when being played, the I would go with the second one because it just looks a lot classier. I like the way the first one looks kind of 'I-know-I-look-a-mess-but-I-don't-really-care', but it does make the guitar look less attractive. But that's just my opinion, and since it's your guitar it's up to you!
TWANG Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 So TWANG are your guitars that you build considered American made??? And have you ever though about building a Tele (rosewood fret-board) with CC pups??? Nope. For instance, the neck on this is going to be from WD which gets theirs from some european company. So I guess I can't say american made. American built! I build teles all the time and vary the pups. What I've mostly been doing is buying either allparts or wd bodys and necks, plus importing some. Then just building from there. But this spring I'll start doing more bodys on my own. I've got one other brazilian mahogany bodied bass and I'm trying to do my own inlay work on that. I vary the pups all the time. Necks, are after I get my body shape finalised. I want my own shape, not just copys. And then I'll start my own necks. When I can do both, then I can say american made and be telling the truth! TWANG

TWANG Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 I put all the parts on.. and I think I'm gonna go with the contemporary. and that's not even a decent pic of it. looks much better in person. It just needs buffed out and soldered up. I've got a blue one where I think the first trem will look better. thanks! I needed a little input! TWANG
TWANG Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 will do djrmusic. just about done with a tele I was working on, gotta do that first. and I don't know about the pup covers yet.. it's tempting to at least get some parchment before I make up my mind. Got the neck on yesterday. still gotta strip it down for a buffing. so it'll be a bit. TWANG
Sinb Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 go by performance' date=' if performance is a wash between the two, then what looks better... I like the way the second one pictured looks[/quote'] yes, exactly go what plays best to u. then iv u still can decide go wit the second! lol

TWANG Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 Is that a rosewood body? I don't know where to get that. I'd have to look around. I saw a fender rosewood tele.. must be twenty years ago.. that was one heavy guitar. even for a paul that thing was heavy. I think I'd go Ash, and stain it rosewood. That has a rosewood overlay on the headstock.. I don't do that, but I could give it a shot. You don't pay if I mess it up. *L* But I'm not supposed to be selling stuff in here, so I don't want to talk in detail. Makes the mods mad at me. You can pm or email me though, that's still ok. After all, it is 'epiphone' forum, not tele forum, or Twang forum. TWANG What's a W CC pickup? I meant to ask you that before.

And you wouldn't have to look, and warmoth has everything, even the one piece all rosewood neck... I just think it would look great with all gold hardware http://www.warmoth.com/showcase/sc_guitar_bodies.cfm?type=guitar&start=1&itemNumber=PT1054&menuItem=2&subMenuItem=2&subMenuItem2=0 http://www.warmoth.com/showcase/sc_guitar_necks.cfm?type=guitar&start=21&menuItem=4&itemNumber=VMT1587&subMenuItem=2&subMenuItem2=0
TWANG Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 ah.. I knew it would be an abbreviation for something I should know so I'd look stoopid! and I was right! *G* ah.. a solid rosewood neck. I can't get that anywhere I'm aware of. The body must be solid.. I'd think they'd route that to relive weight.. man.. 992.00. I should be looking for some rosewood blanks! tWANG

IntelligentAl Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 There should be a George Harrison Rosewood Tele. Man, that would be awesome...
TWANG Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 I just priced some rosewood.. for neck or body, pieces large enough are fairly rare, and pretty pricey. You guys .. I try to get out, but you keep pullin' me back in! I have to start ignoring these ideas and finish what I've got. tWANG

When I brought him my Les Paul Jr and my bag of parts to turn it into JL Les Paul, he laughed and told me no more projects from you until June8-[ .... So it looks like I may have to send my bag of gold parts (since I'm going "ghetto" on the George Tele) so you can final assemble it (with your consent of course)...
TWANG Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 If you're looking for a rosewood tele from me, it'll be way past june! *L* but a les paul jr turned gold.. can do! hope it's ok to say that in here. I cut a paddle headstock into a tele today, and drilled for bigger tuners. Now I gotta go seal it and refinish the face in gloss. Natural finish.. black guard or white? I'm thinking black this time. I'm tired of white. TWANG
