i actually called like 10 guitar centers near me to try to find it...they were all out of stock. Then i ordered one and it got pushed back until March the guy on the phone told me. So i was ready to give up, so i thought, "hey why not call that little sam ash by my house?". i called...they had TWO in natural and ONE in sunburst. haha couldn't believe it.

anyway, this guitar is great. mine actually came very well set up. the action isn't high by any means. you guys just do not understand just how beautiful this guitar is. even the guy at the store was like, "this is a pretty sick guitar". i recommend one of these to everyone.

here are some pictures! [blink]

how's it sound-wise? Is it great-great (for the price)? I mean, whoever came up with the 'Inspired By' series should be knighted or something! Best limited edition ever to be produced, I'd buy both colours but I don't have the cash, so I just went with the 'safe bet'

it plays great. the neck is really thin...but in a good way. it plays like '60s les pauls. its amazing. i really can NOT get over the finish. it is by far the most beautiful guitar i own. if i saw this in a store i would think it would go for way more than $450. It obviously isn't as good as the McCartney Signature. But it's pretty close. my only complaint is that there is no second strap button, but i'll probably install one.

I saw the sunburst in the store as well and i love sunburst texans...but the finish did not look good. It looked cheesy. They were trying to hard to make it vintage like...it just didn't work. I called the store and had them hold this guitar for me and when i went to pick it up he showed me the sunburst...and he himself said it looked bad. The antique natural is beautiful though.

oh yeah. and i thought i may as well say this. i actually owned the lennon ej-160e because as i'm sure most of you are....i'm obsessed with the beatles. even though paul is my favorite beatle i got the ej-160e and it was great. but as soon as i heard of the IB '64 Texan...i texted my friend whos favorite beatle is john and offered him the guitar for only $200 (since i only got it for $300...thanks ebay). Anyway i sold it to get money to use towards the Texan. Let me just say it was the best decision of my life. This guitar plays like a dream....i prefer WAY over the EJ-160E.

haha, I like George the most... And no, I haven't gotten me no SG with Vibrola yet (I might get one someday)... Anyways, I just noticed that I subconciously will have my 'Epiphones owned by Macca' completed ---> Epi Cas with B7 (ok, I did it because of Keith Richards and Georgy) and the Texan...

I'm glad I ordered the antique one, because I wasn't sure about the finish either and I just love a good natural finish!

Well, mine should be here around the beginning of January (I hope it doesn't get lost in the mail or something!) and I'm really looking forward to writing some amazing tunes on it...

I don't expect it to be 'as good' as paul's actual guitar and I won't do the 'Yesterday' comparison (because that's just cheesy trying to copy somebody else's work)... I just want it to sound subtle enough to kick all the other acoustic's in that price-range's &%)%/ç* (if you know what I mean)

  • 5 months later...

Here is a picture from my younger days (circa 1965) of me and my 1964 Texan.

I bought it after I saw "Help!", as I thought it was the guitar that John was playing. Anyway, it was stolen once while I was in college, but I got it back. (Actually, I stole it back from the thief that stole it from me, much to the chagrin of the local Gendarmes. :-) I Had a D'Armand soundhole PUP for my original Texan back in the day and played it through a 10 watt Epi amp. Sad to say, it's long gone. (Believe it or not, I actually traded it in on a single PUP Epiphone Coronet in 1965/66, which was my first electric guitar and ended up in a pawn shop in 1970 during my days in the military; before you think I'm too nuts, my brother traded my Dad's 1956 Blonde Les Paul in on a 2-PUP version of the Epi Coronet.) I bought the ridiculously expensive Paul McCartney signature model Texan a couple years back. I didn't care for it, particularly, but it did, indeed, "sound" exactly like "yesterday". ("Michelle" was pretty good as well, although I have no idea what guitar Paul actually used on that one.) SInce I needed the money, I sold the reissue signature and FedEx killed it. After repairs, it still sold for twice the price of the "inspired by".

So... I am currently interested in the "inspired by" vs. the Lennon EJ-160E. I am leaning towards the latter as I prefer a wider nut and a bassier sound. Recommendations? Anybody know about the Nano-whatever PUP system sound in the "inspired by" Texan?

I've got one of the IB'64 Texans and like it quite well. Have gigged with it several times, and I've had no complaints about the guitar or the Sonic Nanoflex system. The pickup/preamp do a really good job, in my opinion, and they've been trouble-free.

Hi Kozmicbill -

I have an EJ-160E, and it has a very good "Beatle -sound" that closely resembles those early recordings. That's what I wanted since I already have a DR500-M for a good, traditional acoustic sounding guitar. The 160 is not on the level of material quality as the IBL Texan (laminate vs. wood), and of course they would sound different. So perhaps it depends on what you're really looking for in terms of sound. Some time ago I played a re-issued Texan, it was a gem.

Regards,

Has anyone bought the vintage sunburts model?

I would like to see some "real" pictures! If so, please post them! :-P

This is one that I've found on the internet.

Looks better than the promo ones in my opinion.

Thanks!

Those are nice-looking guitars. I look at the photo and take note that while I live in a major metropolitan area, we don't have any guitar stores around that have that many IB'64 Texans. Actually, none of the local stores carry that model. I had to order mine online.

As an aside, I feel I should add that my opinion of the IB'64 Texan must be tempered by forum member ahrukidding's observation that I am nothing more than an "incredibly mediocre musician," so that handicap might devalue my opinion. That said, I haven't seen him around the forum of late, which indicates to me that A) his mom caught him on the computer again or B) the C.O.s at the correctional facility he's currently incarcerated at limit the inmates' time on the computers.

Just a guess from an incredibly mediocre musician....

I agree with everything you say and I love my Texan. Still can't believe how good these guitars are. Gotta admit it is tempting to have one in each colour as they're such good value. Mind you, saying all that, I am a quite mediocre musician too!

All the best, Matt
