hemiv8
Hi, I've got a new Epiphone Dot a few days ago and I want to set it up. What string height works best on a Epiphone Dot? How should I set the Truss rod? What pickup height works best with original pickups?

hemiv8
Can I use lower action with heavier strings than with lighter strings?
peeper
No. Maybe you should take it to your local repairman so they can start you off right with a good setup. It is much easier to maintain a setup that do one from scratch. Especially if you have no prior experience with it.
Gordy01
Muzikron is our resident tech. He has been doing that for a lot of years, so we regard his opinion highly. It is true that a good setup is easier to maintain, than to do yourself, unless you are especially good with tools, and have the correct tools to start with. If you are interested in learning more there are a few really good books that you can buy. The book I always recommend is: Guitar Players Guide to Repair - by Dan Erliwine. I could give you the specs, but if you are not really good at doing some of the things a good setup requires, you can damage your guitar to the point you will have to take it to a tech. Strumbone
I'm just glad to see more people willing to do their own set up. I think it's part of the responsibility in ownership of a wooden instrument, which will react to changes in its environment, requiring small adjustments from time to time. It's not that difficult, and well worth the effort, but then again, if you own many dozens, it may be worth the money to pay someone else to do it. I don't have that problem, and actually, feel lucky to have both an acoustic and one electric, which covers all the bases for me.
