i am looking for an epiphone casino in vintage sunburst, i dont want the lennon or elitist casino just a regular one, but every where i look for one the sunburst finish, the finish isnt that great and doesnt even extend into the horns of the guitar but ive seen images of the regular casino not the elitist or the lennon model, and the finish is great im just wondering where and how i can obtain the standard casino with the better finish

Forget my last message, I thought you were talking about the lacquer finish, but I assume your actually talking about the paint work? Are you trying to find one without too much black around the edge?

I know what you mean about some sunbursts having black horns and no wood visible - I was tempted to get a red finish one instead of a sunburst because of that.

I think it would just be luck of the draw to get one done exactly as you want it

thats very odd,

Cos i like the exact opposite. Its little things like that, that keep the world interesting.

I was told that the uglier tops get more black, while the prettier ones get less.

If you get less black you could be getting, in a sense, better quality wood!

I was under the impression that all of the current Casinos have the correct sunburst finish, not a Les Paul style teardrop burst. So perhaps the ones you have come accross have been slightly older. Still 'new' but older stock, perhaps still posessing a serial number containing letters to denote the factory, not the more recent format which consists entirely of numbers. I cannot say for certain though.

This is the unsightly teardrop style burst. Probably a perfectly good guitar, but that kind of burst on the Casino does look crap.

I myself have a 2009 QingDao manufactured Casino. It has the nice burst. Here are a few pics.

Here's a few pics.

As you can see, it's a great looking finish. The amout of grain that shows depends on the light. Sometimes it's very evident, other times it's invisible. And of course it's a fantastic guitar. I love mine!

Yeah thats exactly what I meant, I really dont like the look of those. When I was Casino hunting I couldnt find one apart from the ones like that, so I very nearly went for a red one (which I actually really like the look of but just wanted a sunburst more.)

Luckily I managed to find one with the correct sunburst on it and I love how it looks.

I seem to remember there was a thread about this a while ago.

At least Epiphone seem to give the Casino the sunburst it deserves (based upon the photo evidence presented above).

I've seen some bloody ugly sunburst Dots and Sheratons lately, with a large, virulent orange pear-shape in the centre of the body. vomit-smiley-549.gif

The beauty of the burst (keep in mind, I'm not a teardrop burst lover) is in the quality of the sprayer!! The link that Swoop put up shows no feathering of the black onto the main body color. Might as well have used a paint roller to apply it.

This is an example of a quality spray job for a 'burst'. It actually looks like a burst of color, which is what it is supposed to do.

I have to agree with you Sheila, (except for the teardrop burst loving...I am one of them [cool] )...

A quality burst is not an easy feat. In my opinion, nobody does a "burst" quite as well as Gibson....

Even after 46 years of fading, they can still look awesome...

I think that finish was called Royal Tan

Jonny - Thanks for that!

I'm an idiot - I'd always assumed that it was the original burst, faded with time (like the les paul do) #-o

Anyway... where were we? Yes....

Speaking of nice sunburst finishes, I wish Epiphone would reissue the Casino in Royal Tan.

i agree about the gibson comment. i had an epi acoustic years back that was burst colored and i hated it. it was more just black with an orange circle sprayed onto it...
