Pick-up on Casino

Hi,

I've remarked on my Casino that the neck pick up is inverted compare to current one. I mean the tickness on the neck side is lower than the tickness on the other side. What do you think?

I'm not sure what you mean, but on both my Casino and ES-330 the neck pickup housing slants, with the lower side closest to the neck itself.

I'm not sure why it's done that way, but I suppose there is a good reason.

I don't know if you can see it in this picture or not (I think I can, but I know it's there):

the neck pickup has to be thinner because it would be way too tall to fit under the strings. they are surface mount. if you remove the other one youll find theres alot of space under it in other words the cover can is made taller to work with the height at the saddle end.

This is interesting. My previous Casino (an '09 MIC) had a neck pickup just like Tisaan's picture.

But my new Casino, a 2010 MIC has much less slant on the neck cover:

Conversely, the bridge pickup is not parallel to the strings and has little/no slant:

This is something to keep in mind if you consider changing your pickups out and it might be slightly off-topic. All of the aftermarket P90s I looked at are made mostly for a flat topped guitar. They don't have the "camber" the stock P90s have and they don't allow for the archtop contour. Here's another facet of the plastic vs. metal pickup cover debate that can come into play. The plastic one will bend a little to better conform to the curved top but not enough for a finished look as far as I was concerned. When I changed mine out, I spent a lot of time (6 hours) making P90 pickup shaped rings that were slimmer on the neck side and concave on the bottom and didn't raise it too much. Believe me, this can be a challenge. Now I'm sure someone can come up with a pickup maker that has a P90 that will be a direct fit. And both Lollar and Biltoft will rewind you stock one to eliminate the fit problem. Just something to consider.

There you go.

I found an old Matsumoku Casino at a Guitar Center, got it cheap but someone had put Duncan Humbuckers on it. I restored it (and sold it for a nice profit), and the Armstrongs were the only Casino correct ones I came across. They sounded really good, had that Revolution growl.
