Opinion on TR, 72 hour use

Recommended Posts

1. Custom Bird 04 <(I believe) I have hardly ever played. Stiff, quiet, factory setup, almost new and real Gibson Master B. lights for this one.

2. 72 hour test with friend's TR. I think I should have done the week long lesser and lesser approach, per my friend's D-28. *She uses the Tone Rite every couple of months on her Martin.

3. Most effect was on tone. Evened spectrum , but did not actually change existing tone character. Now sounds 'broken in' open and very sweet to the ear. As in, TR's purpose.

4. Meters say it is slightly louder. My ears say no change in volume. We'll see after some more use of the TR.

Verdict: Awakened tone for sure. A contraption. Costs no more than the average pedal does now days.

Thanks for your report. Summed up with the tests seen on the Tube, it seems to me the TR has a place in this world.

Can't help thinking of Viagra. All in all all right – just ain't the real thing.

Confusing TR for viagra is likely to give you some unexpected results - read the instructions! [scared]

Interesting thread. Thanks for posting it.

Cilps are on my Studio Mac. It is not a net machine. This is my PC on the above floor . No network. Besides Pro Tools, I have a hard time doing a lot on computers. If I get lucky, I'll get the clips on this machine in my lifetime. The Tonerite did work very nicely on my H. Bird. The owner swears by it on her Martin. But, she uses it every couple of months, and it looks like that might be the way to get the most from it. I was surprised for certain. I have a very sweet sounding guitar with an even tone across the spectrum now on what was not a played in guitar. As a test final leg, I'll play it regularly and see if it stays or reverts before trying my other acoustics. It would make a nice Christmas present to the guitar player in the family.

Well, I just took the TR off the J-185 after 72 hours or so. I have not noticed a positive change with that guitar, other than it seems to have made it very chimey (I did put D'Addarios on after tho' and I usually use Elixirs so that could be it). The results on Magic was pretty darned impressive. I think it's a handy little device, even if all you wanted to use it for is to warm up the guitar before playing (once you've done the initial *treatment*). I might get one!

Agreed, Karen. My Hummingbird is holding nicely. As I said, the Tonerite is no more in cost than an electric guitar pedal. It seems like a 'handy device' to me also. You should hear my friend's Martin D-28. She uses it every 3 months on lower settings now. It sure didn't sound like it does now days when she bought it. I think I will pass up a new electric toy and get a Tonerite to have on hand myself.
