I went to the guitar store during an otherwise hectic day (chuckle) and just wanted to window shop for after xmas mostly. The salesman asked me what my budget was and i said roughly 700-1200, it would take one heck of a guitar to stretch me further. I told him id been playing mostly epiphones, ibanez and strats so he said i got a new guitar in stock if youd like to try?

sure what is it i said? He jus smiled and said, ill be right back. He came out with a black les paul traditional and said this is a few hundred more than your budget but it's used and in great shape give it whirl.

So i tried a little eagles on it (mostly wanted ez songs to get a feel for the neck) and my first impression other than weight was how bright it seemd to sound. Was playing thru a Vox ac30 so im not sure if it was Gibson or the amp or both but the sound got better and better with each riff i played. I then softly played babe im gonna leave you by led zep and closed my eyes while my fingers danced along the frets.

The action was nice, the tone was much fuller than my epiphones ive tried and for a few seconds i felt like a rockstar until i realized i dont solo like page lol..

Anways, i will admit ive always thought Epiphone were better buys for the money (yep im a biased emo fool) but i finally did try a Gibson and this baby sang like a bird!

I came home and talked to my girlfriend for hours about the guitar until she finally told me to shut up and buy the dam thing. Ive got serious gas now, i try to focus on work and keep thinking about that guitar, ive now got pictures of that guitar and keep staring at it. oh man help!! lol..

For me the Sheraton is a great guitar but i actually play the hummingbird the most, as far as electrics go i split time between them but if i got a les paul it would probably end up my go to.

I sold my Epi Les Paul to a good friend after I bought my R0.

He loved the Epi and rightly so - it was a very fine playing and sounding guitar.

When, however, he had the chance to come over for a jam he was utterly astonished at the difference in sound between the two instruments - both acoustically and when amplified.

Epi LPs really are great value for money. They are not, however (IMHO), quite in the same league as a good Gibson example.

I'm delighted for you that your girlfriend is supportive of your potential purchase. Traditionals are excellent Pauls.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Epi's are a good value for the money. However the poly finish chocks the sound, the headstock looks stupid on LP's & SG's & the pots & switches need to be changed. If you want a good sounding guitar, save up for the real thing, a Gibson.
