elmo
I have a newer Les Paul and it has no name on the truss rod. I have looked up the serial number and it was made in 2008 in May I believe. 01508xxx6 It is root beer in color and has Gibson Deluxe tuners on it. Is there a way to tell what it is..... Standard, custom, studio?
NeoConMan
It was made in 2008 with that serial number, you are correct. The truss rod cover often is blank. Does the guitar have plastic binding around the perimeter of the body? What do the inlays on the fretboard look like? What else is on the headstock for inlay or decoration? NeoConMan
Your serial number made me curious. Just for kicks, I called Gibson Customer Service since the production date is near the Big Freak Out at Gibson. Your guitar is a Les Paul Standard with a Plus top and the larger 50's neck. Root Beer is indeed the finish, nickel hardware. It was a Dealer Exclusive of some sort, made before the big changes in the Standard line. Yours was built when they were still made using the old template, like Standards of decades past. One of the last, so hang on to it, eh? List price was somewhere north of $3,000 so a competetive street price when new was likely 2,100 - 2,300 bucks.
elmo
There is a binding around the body on the outside edge about 1/4" The fretboard inlays are kinda wedge shaped. Nothing else on head stock except Gibson and Les Paul model
LPguitarman
Sounds like you've got a nice Standard. How about some pictures of that baby.
NeoConMan
Hey Elmo, welcome to the forum and enjoy the guitar. Suggestion: Edit your first post to remove or jumble that serial number. Add some xxx to it or sumthin. Counterfeiters like legit serial numbers to make fakes.

swleary
I sure do like that rootbeer finish on it, it looks great. I'd hold on to that one for sure. Now I have a craving for a rootbeer, haha pop will have to so lol Going by the pic (which sometimes can be misleading_) looks like the fretboard is a little dry. Some fret doctor will bring that board right up :)
NeoConMan
Elmo, another tip if you're not that familiar with Gibsons; The pic you posted appears to be flat on the floor. Resting on the headstock is asking for trouble - NEVER apply pressure to the back side of the headstock. This occurs literally in a snap - you'll never see it coming.
