As for amps, Kustom really doesn't get a lotta recognition around here or in places in general.

I know Twiz has one. I was thinking of getting one of their recent models. Beyond that, I don't think I've seen them mentioned very often. They did put out some good stuff, though.

I have a Kustom 212 1/2 stack (an oldie, blue sparkle) that I use as a bass rig. It's reliable & sounds good but it clips once you get to about 5 on the volume. It gets loud enough tho.

Anyway I gotta say First Act.

Custom is great stuff. Back in my younger days as a gigging bassist who dated some crazy women, my band mates used to joke that the padded cabinets would be a good investment for me... I would always have a place to sleep if I was kicked out of the flat by the girl. :)

Parker.

Since I got my Parker DF (Dragonfly / Maxxfly) last November, I can count on one hand the total times I touched my Gibson ES-330, Epiphone Casino and LTD EC-50. The DF is the only guitar I pick up now because:

  1. It's lightweight - under 5 pounds
  2. It's well balanced, no neck dives
  3. It's sculpted to feel comfortable - I wear it instead of holding it
  4. Hardened stainless steel frets and ebony fretboard make bending a breeze
  5. Sperzel locking tuners, graph-tech nut, and Parker bridge - it stays in tune better than all my other guitars, even after wiggling the whammy
  6. Master volume control at my right pinky - don't know how I ever lived without it
  7. Great pickups 2 Duncan SCs, a Duncan coil tapping SC/Humbucker and a Fishman piezo under the bridge - wonderful assortment of great sounds

It's my "desert island" guitar (providing there is electricity on the island ;) )

I have to say Yamahas are some of the most consistently good guitars & basses (& pianos & motorcycles & ...). And roll your eyes all you want but First Act guitars play pretty nice for next to nothing.

There's a million obscure and esoteric guitar brands out there but those 2 don't get much love.

Godin and Seagull make great instruments

Being Canadian I've known about these companies for years. They're great. Originally 2 separate companies Godin bought Seagull a while back. Norman is another acoustic brand that Godin aquired a while back too.

I'd also have to say that Boss gets crapped on a lot but they the fact is they make some great pedals that are very durable. I have noticed some of their dirt pedals have a tendancy to color your tone in a way that's distinctly BOSS, which I don't like, but going out and trying different models I can usually find something I like.

Traynor amps

I used to love my Cort that I sold to finance my SG. Wish I could have afforded to keep both that MGM-1 was one of my main guitars for about 8 years and the on recordings I'd done with it, often itgot mistaken for a Les Paul. Should have seen the gear snobs jaws drop when they realized I wasn't pulling their legs when I told them it was something else... and made in Korea at that. lol

I had a Yamaha SBG-500 back in highschool. Great guitar. A local luthier was always telling me to let him know if I decided to sell it even though the frets were all ****ed up and the neck was warped to the point the truss rod didn't help any. I only found out after I bought it that Santana used a slightly more high end version (SBG-2000 I think).
