Jaklcide
I'm having the hardest time finding info on this guitar for a friend of mine. Can anyone help? There are no serial numbers visible. It looks like the keys have been replaced with Kluson deluxe at some point and the bridge has been replaced. Is that a handwritten signature? ksdaddy
Interesting to read that you can't seem to find anything about this guitar yet you seem to know the tuners and bridge have been replaced. If you picked up on that, you already know what this is.
Jaklcide
No I don't know what it is, I only know whats been replaced because the guitar has only had two owners, father and son. They are the ones that told me what work had been done because they did it themselves and have the receipts showing the work done. The guitar itself is a mystery however because the father died and so did the history other than word of mouth. There is no real indication of what it is. Thermionik
. . I think that scroll with the 'good enough' message was 1943-1945 - and it also had that slightly squiffy looking Gibson script then too. So that narrows it down to a Gibson made during the war years '43, '44, '45. Model - a better picture (less under-exposed) and a couple of angles, would help..... TWilson
It's hard to tell from the photo, the Gibson script almost looks like someone tried to touch it up a bit. It does have that J-45 look, but the Original Jumbo, Jumbo, or J-35 could look like that also. " Calling John Thomas!"
jefleppard
looks delicious. like an old piece of chocolate. really nice pics too, BTW. prewar j-45? there's a gentleman on this forum whose writing a gibby book (sorry, i forget his name) who would know in a heartbeat. zombywoof
Wasn't the J-45 the only acoustic to come with a teardrop pickguard and dot neck? Anyway, looks like a '42 to '46 J-45 to me. Is the top mahogany?
Thermionik
. . Exactly so zombywoof, exactly so..... . .
Modac
Looks like a J45 to me. The question I have is what are the B&S made of? Or for that matter, the top....the photos are not too revealing. I don't think any of the original Jumbos would have had the banner head.
