Hi From the New Guy

Hi, All,

New Guy here to introduce myself. I am getting reacquainted with my guitar after 10-12 years of not playing it. Here it is:

I know a little about it, but can't determine which year it was made. Note Kalamazoo label. Either 66 or 69 according to the sticky. My dad says he bought it new in 68. Anybody help me narrow it down?

It's bone stock with no alterations, but has been professionally set up. Action is low and a pleasure to play.

I also have a matching tube combo amp bought at the same time that goes with it-two channels (one for a mike), with a single 10" or 12" (can't remember). It works great, but I don't have it with me, so no pics.

So, being older and a little wiser than I used to be, I'm thinking about insuring this guy. All I see on evilbay are the Lennon reissues. Nothing comparable. Anybody care to guess at replacement value?

Thanks,

Justin T.

Welcome to the forum, that's a real beauty for sure and you asked your question about value Justin Time (lol) as I have my Vintage Guitar Price guide right here in front of me.A rough estimate of the value would be from $2,400-$3,000 if a '68 model but would be about $2,600-$3,200 if a '66.Where yours is in such great condition I'd say that she'd be on the high side of value-Enjoy and take good care of her.BTW don't alter or change a thing on her as to do so would cause the value to plummet.

Welcome to the forum Justin!

Ignoring what appears to be an incorrect picture of a vintage Sheraton, the 2011 Guitar Blue Book says $3,750 for a Casino in those years. I'm assuming it's in 98% mint condition, and it may be that the Tremotone vibrato adds some value. If you have the original case, perhaps even more. While you might insure it for say, $4.5k, it would be difficult if not impossible to replace that guitar at any price. You are a lucky man...

Justin, welcome to the forum. I can't add anything to the value of your guitar, but that is a really nice guitar. I would find a reputable luthier or collector and have him write up an appraisal. That way, down the road, there is no question as to it's value. I've gotten a third party appraisal on every guitar that I've owned, worth over $500. I've never paid more than $45 for one and it could sure make things easier on you if that fateful day ever comes. Until then, take care of it and play it once in a while. How about some pictures of the amp? Is it in the shape condition?

Thanks, all! After all these years this guitar is as sweet as I'd want, and couldn't bear to change it at all. I'm a gun guy too and I know value is affected greatly when changes are made. Can someone tell me more about the Tremotone? Is it simply a desirable option, or is it rare or something?

That being said, I can think of a few nicks here and there-a small one in the binding, a ding on the back of the neck, a little buckle rash, but it's honest wear and the finish is crazing like it's supposed to-couldn't be happier with it, except I would like a luthier to take a look at the 9th fret marker-the glue is beginning to separate a little on the corner of the block, and it flexes a little. Not enough to affect playability, but I know it's there and it bugs me. Condition? I think 98% would seem fair.

Someone mentioned cases above (thanks for the estimates, by the way). It is riding in a Gibson 335 hardshell I bought for it about 15 years ago. However, I have A case that has been with the guitar ever since I can remember. Dad says he thinks the shop threw it in b/c they didn't have the original. I have no way to tell, but the old case pretty beat up. It's one of those tolex-covered cardboard ones with yellow fur in it. I think it's falling apart. Is there any way to tell if it's original to the guitar or not?

Regarding the amp, the controls layout looks exactly like the one in this link here: http://www.gis.net/~ctaylor/Lancer.htm. The strip along the bottom of the control panel has the epi badge. No model name on the right side, like you see with an electra or comet, though, so I have NO idea what model it is. Big heavy sucker for a combo amp. The controls are the same, it has the footswitch (that NEVER worked right), etc. I guess it looks like an electra, with the same layout as the gibson in the link, and is wider (bigger) than the electra. No pics for now though-it's 150 miles away and I can't get to it right now (I play through a little Park practice amp at the moment). Knobs are scratchy, but the valves work well and it sounds great-the speaker's a Jensen if I remember right. What is this animal?

I would also like to welcome you to the forum Justin. Nice bunch of people here, I'm sure you've noticed.

I also think some of our members are hugely knowledgable about our Epi guitars, so lots of info here too.

Very nice guitar you have. Look after that one, it's a keeper.
