Two Gibson Archtops.........

Just an update on the L-7....In my humble opinion....the L-7 is NOT just for jazz!! I can play anything on this thing.....and FYI.....it is actually EASIER to play than a Jumbo Gibson....the curved top and the narrower sides just seem to make it easier to play than the hard edged Jumbo. This thing can play LOUD...or soft...I'm just really impressed with the sound of this thing. By the way...not bad for blues either.....and of course...Great for jazz comping and leads....J45nick...you NEED to get one of these!!!!

Oh yea.

There is good reason why that body shape and construction was THE guitar for a long time.

Agreed, cute couple. If you send them to me I would be delighted to do the wedding ceremony!! There won’t even be any counseling feels (I usually don’t charge anyway).

Or...it might just go from being "porn" to straight up infidelity.

It would be real hard to keep hands of that stuff.

Hey Larry, another question for you....The tuners on the L-7 are Kluson Deluxe, look mojo'd and period....HOWEVER.....they will tune "down" but seem quite loose, tuning "up" they are perfect...id this standard proceedure for Klusons of this age, or do I need to be concerned? Thanks!...Wily

I have never tried either guitar, Wily, but one time I was very close to playing a L7...

I was about 12 years old and had been going to guitar lessons and plodding along with it rather excitedly but slowly, when this other guitar student said after a group lesson: 'Paul B??? from our school is learning guitar - let's go over to his place to check him out", or words to that effect. So off we go to Paul's place to find that his father has just bought him a new guitar to encourage his guitar playing pursuits: a Gibson L7 like yours Wily! Wow!

Paul Whatever-his-name then proceeded to play like Joe Pass and Kenny Burrell. When he had ripped the whole guitar neck up, he asked if we wanted to try the guitar and of course we both said it was getting about time for dinner....

That characteristic is called "lash", and it's the reason you should always tune up to pitch, rather than down to it.

Nice...ery interesting pick guards!!

Those are the standard pickguards for these two versions, I believe. I looked at a '58 L-7 cutaway with a single pickup, and it had the same guard as the black guitar here. Have to admit I'm not a great fan of the look, and I'm not sure what the pickups were in this period. Several that I've looked at have removable aftermarket DeArmonds.

Nick, thats why I got the pure acoustic one, I KNOW I'm not going to be a Wes Montgomery and wasn't going for that pure Jazz tone, I will play it acoustically and with mics if needed...I just like that non-cut-away non-pickup look and sound....
