brad1
OOOPS! I didn't see the "electric" part, only the "acoustic" part. Nevermind...........
Versatile
I have a cheaper 160e copy which came with a fairly high action So I was confident to put electric 10's on it It now finger-picks easily with a great tone acoustic or plugged in.... RaSTuS
Don't know the model, but if it has a magnetic pickup then steel strings (nickel, stainless etc) are a must, bronze strings are useless for mag pups.
modern image
I recently bought a Epiphone EJ-160E John Lennon elec acoustic, I need to buy new strings. Any sugestions? best strings i've used are 'clear tones' . they really make a difference, and last long. but they are around $20 a set.
charlie brown
You didn't mention any particular "tone" you're going for, but, if it's a "Beatles" electric tone, then Pyramid Flat wounds (electric) strings, would be good! Round wound electrics, will be good, if you want to do both "electric" AND "Acoustic" playing. 10's or 11's, generally, in guage! bonzoboy
I have a John Lennon EJ-160-E and I use D'Addario 10-46 Nickel wound strings with the wound 3rd- EXL110W is the proper product code for them. The wound G is only 18 gauge but is very easy to bend. These are the best acoustic/electric strings I've used.If you intend to do any playing at all throough an amp then I wouldn't recommend bronze or silk wound as their magnet properties aren't that great. As Charlie Brown suggested Pyramid flatwounds are also a very good choice for that Beatle vibe.Anyway welcome to the Forum Trudy,I'm sure that you'll enjoy it here and I'm positive that you'll enjoy your 160-E
Trudy
Thank You everyone for your recomendations.I think Im going to go with D'Addario 10-46 Nickel wound strings, I used them on my Gibson. I'm making up for lost time...ready to get back to the music. Thanks again!
zombywoof
I have old DeArmond magentic pickups slapped across the soundholes of my acoustics and string them with round wound nickel 13s. I love the sound of the guitars unplugged and plugged in the pickups read the nickel strings real well.
