Epiphone G-400

Yeah, I had a Gibson SG Special for a while and sold it (dumb) and tried to replace it with the Stratocaster, my main guitar is a Casino. And I really like George Harrison's SG, and can't afford one so the Epiphone G-400 comes close and with the Maestro on it gets about as close as possible. Are they good guitars?

http://www.epiphonewiki.com/index.php?title=SG#.2765_Maestro_Reissue_G-400 yeah they do do a cherry one, didnt realise thought people added them. Im sure if you buy one without, that they are simple enough to put on, (never tried so wouldnt know). I know G400s have gone down a bit, but that might be due to the epi xmas sale. They were at one point £189 brand new. Not sure how much maestro's are...

I like my G400, good little guitar wouldnt trade it for the world, probs not even for a Gibson SG. I also got a P90 SG anniversary. This doesnt have grovers but wilkinson buttons. Still very good, lighter than the G400. Both have slim taper necks, think theyre d profile, will be on epi or someone will correct me. G400 I think have 57 classic humbuckers, again will be on epi all the specs.

Im not really geared up with Fender and what theyre like. I personally dont rate strats, not my cup of tea. I know that mexican fenders are cheaper... thats it really oh and squire is like epi to gibson kinda. So to me Id trade it, but if you got spare cash and can afford the G400 buy that and keep them both, depends on how much you like your strat. See what others say.

I have the '66 version (comes with full pickguard).

I regret the purchase simply because I should have been patient and just saved another $500 and bought the guitar I really wanted - the Gibson SG. Nothing wrong with the Epi G-400. It sounds very good, plays very nice. The humbuckers give me a very good gritty rock tone. I have had no problems with the guitar at all. However, I use it just as my beater guitar. I have had the guitar for about three years and still haven't changed the strings. The Epi G-400 is my beater. It is hanging on the wall, I grab it whenever I want to just monkey around. I also let the kids use this guitar.

By the way, no I haven't found a two screw truss rod cover for my Casino yet.

Oh no, you got me worried about mine. Oooo do they? Post a pic of one!

I don't know why should I have to prove it to you, what reason would I have to lie, but here it is anyway.

Rastus is there anyway to prevent the neck from flexing?

Basically get one that doesn't flex is your best bet, I've never heard of anyone offering a fix for it, what I'm planning on doing is pulling out the neck pickup and screwing the thing down at the tenon.

Beautiful SGC! I have one of those limited editions too. The maestro really completes the look. I also have red and black G-400 with maestros. What cool-looking guitars. In my experience, Epi uses stronger, heavier wood on the masestro models, which wuld prevent issues. When you add on a maestro to a normal stop bar SG, you'll have the two holes showing from where the stop bar was.

1) My Epi P-90 SG also has a D profile neck, wide but not deep. I changed magnets in the bridge P-90 (they each come with two alnico 5's) and put in an A8/A4, which gave it more mids and less treble, more 'beef.' I'm also going to put in a push-pull pot so I can liknk the PU's in series and make a virtual humbucker (normally PU's are wired in parallel in the middle toggle position).

2) Agree on Fenders, don't care for the looks, feel, or sound. Much rather have an SG.

I have been pondering trading my MIM Fender Stratocaster for a Epiphone G-400. I have noticed on many of the G-400s that they appear to have Grovers on them, is that a stock feature?c Also woukd a Maestro tail peice fit? Thoughts on the G-400?

Hiya Casino4life, check out Fleabay. There's a Pelham Blue G400 with maestro 4 sale, not

my favourate colour but, each to their own.

Maestro vibrola's on Fleabay also, without the engraved lyre logo.

Love the Maestro vibrolas on SG's, they seem to complete the look IMO. They work well also,

as long as you don't try divebombs or anything extreme. Note; all my Epi's come with grovers. All work brilliantly.

Here's my G400 Custom LTD,

I've done some mods and personalized it a bit. She's a wicked player now.[thumbup]

Good luck with yours dude.

No, '66 Mustang.

I got the '66 Epiphone SG so I just had to take a pic of it in front of the '66 Mustang.

I guess if you played a guitar back then and drove a car, that would be what you might have going on.
