When you consider the prices of the Terada made Gretsches I don't think the price is outrageous. Probably would sell better if it were a Chinese guitar at a lower price point, but I'm always happy to see Epiphone striking out with a high end product.

I've got to admit though, I have absolutely no clue who Dwight Yoakam is, other than a man with damn fine taste in guitars.

I've always liked Dwight's tunes. From '96 thru '99 I was in a band that did a variety of country, blues, and rock covers..One such cover was this:

Dwight Yoakum is just a strummer. His guitarist back in his early days was Pete Anderson. He helped create the sound for Dwight. Pete is the guy that recorded all the backing tracks for Guitar Center's King of the Blues Contest, and plays live with his band at the Finals as the background musicians for the finalists.

I'm more of a blues, rock, metal guy, but I've always liked Dwight Yoakum's music. Check out these tunes: 1. Fast as You, 2. Guitars, Cadillacs, and 3. Honky Tonk Man. Awesome guitar licks in those songs!

I agree with your observations, Jay.

I was considering another Casino, possibly adding he Elitist '65. I was a little set back by the fact that Epi calls the Dwight Trash (D.T.) an Elitist and then went ahead and used laminated 5-ply , instead of regular 5-ply maple w/ spruce bracing as was done with the '65 Elitist Casino. Comparing the D.T. to the '61 50th Casino Tremotone seems more on par, and then the '61 is becomes the screaming deal here, despite some the extras on the D.T..

I am driven to the '61 50th w/ Tremotone Vibrato with all this considered.

How else would you get 5-ply other than laminating it ?

The point I was making was in the materials, not the process of joining layers together. In this case, Epi lists the D.T. as using the laminate process leaving open to interpretation that a lesser wood material than maple is used in the construction which summation is only increased by the the use of solid color finishes. Whereas the '65 Elitist is specifically defined as employing five plies of Maple which follows the use of both a natural and VS exposed grain finish and no mention of a imaged top. If the D.T. description was an oversight by Epi, maybe a clarification can be made.... If not, it seems a wood product other than Maple was employed.

They are 1800 Euro over here [thumbdn]

you can get an US made Gibson ES 339 for the same price [thumbup]

or a Gibson Midtown Custom for 1100 Euro + a nice tubeamp for another 700 Euro [thumbup]

One of my local dealers informed me today that he has several on order. I asked him what they were pricing them at... He said he believes they'll be tagged at about $2099.00 +/-. That means to buy it locally the cost with tax pushes it closer to $2,300. I think I'll save myself the extra expense of $1,500, and instead add the '61 50th Anniv. Casino w/ the TremTone Vibrato which will compliment my non-TremTone version...
