I'm glad you posted that. I thought Kiss were a contrived pantomime but now I can see they're serious musicians, neigh, artistes for whom the income and lifestyle means nothing compared to the their art. [lol][wink][flapper]

I actually think that film is kinda funny in a really corny way. C'mon!

BTW, while I say that I don't think of KISS as straight-up vaudville, I don't think of them as artists. per-se. Jeff Beck is an artist. Joe Bonamassa is an artist. KISS is just fun rock n' roll (with a kickass gimmick, of course), and that's all there is to it.

All musicians that play for a living are in it for the money no matter what. KISS (Simmons and Stanley. Ace is terrible with money) just happens to like money more than other bands.

It actually could have been a decent movie if KISS wasn't in it.

It's strange how we now live in a world where almost everything is disposable and has a shelf life of a year at the most and people are arguing about KISS still? They were a very interesting chapter in music sadly they didn't die off when they should have and now there a parody of what they used to be. They are now so fake that the fake is what has become famous kind of the Joan Rivers of Rock bands a very apt comparison really kiss is very ,uch like Joan a truly sad 78 year old woman with over 700 plastic surgeries that doesn't even look human anymore. A better petition would be to let them die with a little dignity but it's at least 20 years too late for that.

Both Izzy's post #22 and Retro's above raise an interesting side issue regarding 'When To Call It A Day'.

Madonna is a smart cookie. She has managed to re-invented herself over and over but always remained true to herself even although she has moved on in a musical sense.

The same could be said about quite a few other artists such as Prince, Clapton, Neil Young and so on. They all play in the same sort of genre as they always did but have managed to inject their output with fresh ideas. Some with more success than others but 'To Err is Human' and all that jazz. Sometimes we learn best through our mistakes.

The reason I bring this up is that each of these acts (and there are many more) have maintained a healthy musical development and, by that, not become mere parodies of their former selves.

One of the problems which KISS have had to face is that their very first incarnation was such a powerful, memorable and successful one that it left almost no room for their later 'versions' to compete on a level playing field.

The genuinely appreciative diehard fans of the MUSIC - such as kaleb - would be able to accept change for the better but those lightweight Voyeuristes who wish for nothing more than to see the 'Same Old Same Old' would always decry anything which went against the iconic KISS imagery of the dim and distant past - and, sadly, I'm probably as guilty as anyone else in this regard..........

Yeah, they keep shooting themselves in the foot. With me being a fan, I would enjoy them carrying on but not like this. Too Disney-esque for me. If Tommy and Eric had new characters, they wouldn't pack arenas with the lightweights, but they'd gain some integrity. If they took off the makeup again and brought Bruce Kulick back, I'd be even happier. But Paul can't sing anymore (he's almost as bad as Ian GIllan is now), and both he and Gene LOOK contrived. Paul is turning into Joan Rivers. While KISS is as big as they've been since their heyday (while I despise it, I think Gene's reality show gave them a boost just like Steven Tyler and American Idol. Before Family Jewels, they played casinos. Now they play real arenas again), they're coasting.

I'm pretty sure they'll have more faux-farewells in the future. Think about it. They'll all be in their 80s, in wheelchairs, and tuned down to A.

They should have called it quits after the original Farewell Tour (or did a different version without makeup with Bruce, maybe putting on the makeup with original members for an annual show). While they all played like ****, at least it was real. Fakeness and my issues with the characters aside, the last time they sounded good was on the Rock The Nation tour in 04'.

The "new" KISS continues to turn me off with the Joan Rivers-ness. Even Paul's overly sparkly guitars make me cringe.

Kiss Sucks

No they don't they're the bestist band in the whole world! [flapper]

Ha!

Seriously, KISS don't suck. They blow! (read KISS & Tell and or Peter's book and you'll know what I'm talking about...)

But, I have to be honest with ya': sometimes you come off like a writer for Rolling Stone.

Wow, you're so smart! When I grow up I wanna be just like you!

I read MAD magazines, I enjoy Austin Powers, PunkD and Jackass, Family Guy (and most other animated comedies), and despite the fact that I'm not a kid I get a kick outta Spongebob.

Bring it on, buddy.

I also find it EXTREMELY ironic that I'm the Ace fan yet you have a Budokan.

And, not to be a grammer Nazi, but why call me out when you don't even bother using proper punctuation?

Kaleb, in his passionate for defense of his "lifestyle," he accidentally quoted himself. at least that's what i think.

looks like i've upset the KP Duty of the Kiss Army

Either you really have a problem with me or you're just the best ball-buster that ever existed.

And I'm not in the KISS Army. I'm a ROCK SOLDIER (or I would be if the fan club was still functioning).

It's called being a "FANBOY".

IF we all aren't fanboys of something, we missed the point.

Even a 10,000 dollar Gibson is still, at it's core, a "toy". It won't stop a war or feed the poor or change the world or anything. Can't take it too serious, in any fashion.

Not even the Rolling Stones takes themselves so serious. And they are the greatest Rock and Roll band of all time, ever, bar none. Even to this day.

Kaleb, I can't have a problem with you. I've never met you. I don't know you. Thus you cannot have a problem or dislike something you do not know.

Ballbuster, yes. Because you ask for it so much. By reasons such as the origin of this very post.

Now get back to cleaning those Latrines, the Kiss Army's due back any minute.

I love you RS (in a forum brotherly way).

I don't regret this petition, despite the fact that it's nothing. Everyone fails. Failure is important. But I realized there's nothing I can do about how I feel about the KISS character thing and that KISS, Inc. will write me off as another Ace/Peter ***-kisser (which, despite being a total Ace fanboy, am not. I read and believed the KISS & Tell book and regularly go back to it when I need some entertainment on the can, something most of the blowhards would dismiss as bullshit. I have some criticisms for Ace. One being if that he's gonna do small tours, he should restart Rock Soldiers and release DVDs, compilations, stuff to keep the fans coming. Not to mention his failure to ever show up ON TIME and the fact that he rarely rehearses with his band, which makes things not as tight as they should be.). Let's face it, Gene doesn't listen to anybody smaller than him. Should I really be surprised?

On a final note, despite that it makes them look like a complete kiddie band of buffoons and is an embarrassment to their name (among many other things), who wouldn't get some kind of kick outta KISS Meets the Phantom? (or, Attack Of The Phantoms, the non-US theatrical version that RS posted)

Hell, I might tease the crowd with "Rip and Destroy" at my next gig....

As i said of my personal attitude towards you; one cannot have a problem with, or dislike that which they do not know. That said, i brush away like a fly your notion of 'forum brotherly love' towards me.

You & your affection for cartoon rock is laughable. and I will continue to point and laugh at you the more you boast of it.

hark now... get your kitchen gloves as its KP Duty for the 'rock soldiers' when your done peeling potatoes make them latrines shine.

I know you don't have a problem with me. I was kidding, YA JACKASS! I'm willing to bet if you had been a teenager in the late 70s (assuming you were born in 1976), you would have been one of those guys that would have beat guys like me and Eddie Trunk up for being KISS fans.

Is this cartoon rock to you? C'mon, you know you love it! (I'll jump ahead and just say, TWO CAN PLAY AT THAT GAME! Gee, this thread is pretty fun, huh?)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SnJcwwugds

Is that cartoon rock to you?

I really admire your endurance as far as ball-bustin' goes. Now, I'll bust your balls!

You can go back to your circle-jerk at your mother's house with your fellow U2 fans, or whatever the hell you like (no offense to U2 fans). When your Ma walks in, I hope it gets caught in the zipper. I'll be at my house blasting KISS Alive! on my giant speakers, thank you very much.

Now, time for serious (what?). I don't care of what you think of KISS. I don't care what anyone thinks of KISS. All I gotta say is, just because you're a trained guitarist (I've seen your fingerstyle vids. Very good) doesn't mean that you're better than me.

And, as far as me "talking to myself", I tend to write what I feel so don't be surprised. In fact, don't think about it at all.

such hostility!!! such vile words towards a person you have never even met. a person who merely disagrees with your constant flooding of the forums with that old hat 70s cartoon pop band.

my goodness... in this thread, I have received character assassination, hostility, no sense of humor, no manners...

Kaleb.... ride off into the virtual sunset with your Kiss records, kiss dolls, and trading cards, et al.

even if you did not like said cartoon pop bands such as those fools, I would be wary of coming anywhere near you discussing anything important. I hope you kindly keep in mind, that there are more points of view than yours.

i respect that you have an affinity for goofy bands like this. but dont be surprised when you will be laughed at for a while, then eventually ignored.

lastly, Kiss sucks.

What a pretentious nitwit you are! I'm Mr. Hostile. I'm worse than Jim Norton, only I'm not as funny. Just as crude, though!

FYI, I don't own KISS dolls and trading cards. Well, I do, but they were gifts and I have the kindness not to refuse. A friend of mine is into the KISS merchandising stuff so I'm giving him the dolls. The cards (original ones from 1978) are stashed in a box. I never got into that side of KISS. All I like is clothing, stickers/magnets, and posters.

You tell me that there are more points of view yet you keep pushing your opinion that KISS sucks like it's all that matters.

You wanna pick on me? Well, I'm gonna gratify my ego now and tell myself that of the two of us, despite the fact that you beat me to being a pro musician, I will make farther than you. I'm gonna be somebody. Hell, in this town, apparantly I am somebody. Either way, I'm gonna gratify myself by telling you that you're a nobody.

Despite the fact that we KISS fans are split into different groups and tend to bicker with some (like me and Starchild, whom agrees with the concept that KISS is eternal. I don't think so! But that's just my opinion), we're all brothers when we have to defend ourselves. I might write a song about this.

BTW, KISS was only a cartoon band from late-1977 (Alive II era) to 1981. Now, they're just a glorified tribute band.
