  1. Nice guitar. A Gibson cabled to an English amp is pure rock ‘n roll tone for the ages.
  2. It’s really all that matters. Back in the sixties and seventies I got to see a lot of local bands in Birmingham. There were some real good bands with real good guitarist. Wayne Perkins, Bobby Delander, and drove down to Montgomery one night to see this local hot shot everyone was telling me he was the real deal. His name is Tommy Shaw. Wayne recorded with the Stones, Bobby went to LA and laid down tracks for commercials and Tommy joined some band, I forgot their name. Twigs or Sticks or something like that. I was never jealous, I’m thankful I can play and still enjoy it like I did way back when. It’s all good.
  3. The Good Lord gave me a lot of passion for music, but he didn’t give me a lot of talent. I realized at 25 I didn’t have chops to make a full time living playing. I think Eric Clapton got my talent issue on top of his when it was being issued out. But it has never detoured me playing everyday. I play only for myself these days and rarely do I get heckled.
  4. Naw, I’m just hitting my prime. I saw The Who in Nashville this May accompanied by the Nashville Symphony. It was the best concert I ever saw. Daltrey is 75 and Townsend is 73, hell Zach Starkey is 54.
  5. God bless your mom! Sounds like was way more than just cool. She is super cool!
  6. Funny thing about this guitar. It was introduced in 1954, the year I was born, as a student guitar. I started guitar lessons in 1965, and I have played either a bass or guitar off and on ever since. I don’t consider this a beginners or student guitar by any stretch. You really have to have some years under your belt to play this pony. But once you know how to dial it in, its one hell of a guitar.
  7. Thanks, and thank you for your service. I played a club once and was heckled. Some cat in the audience yelled out,..the guitar player is a mother.....er. The bouncer approached the man and asked if he called the guitar player a mother...er. The man said I want to know who called this mother...er a guitar player. I rest my case.
  8. Funny story. 1969 I'm 15 years old, it's summer and I'm playing my 1966 Tele. The old man yells upstairs, "what in the hell is that noise?' I open the bedroom door and say, I'm playing my axe dad. He says, "sounds like a mule sucking on a stump," I said have you ever heard of Jimi Hendrix? He said yea, I know who he is and I think you should play over at his house and let his parents enjoy that noise. My old man didn't really know who Jimi Hendrix was.
  9. I'm damn proud of my 2019 Original Collection Les Paul Jr. I think it's a fine guitar. For years I played Fender's exclusively for the simple reason they were a lot less expensive. Then I played a friends SG, and I really liked the P-90 tone. I have never owned the perfect guitar. They don't exist, play any guitar long enough and you will discover something you would want to change or tweak. And I know a lot of guitarist that do not and will not shield their guitars. I watch a video on Stew Mac a few years ago on shielding, Dan Erlewine said he does not shield his personal guitars. I think Gibson makes some of the finest guitars in the world these days. But this is my opinion, and I'm far from an expert, on any subject.
  10. I bet you I'm a worse guitar player than you are. In fact I was voted 3 consecutive years 'worst guitarist' in the city of Birmingham. I don't like to brag, but 3 consecutive years is still a record.
  11. I like Reverb too. I have bought several items from Reverb and I have no complaints. I like the fact it was founded by a musician and staffed by musicians for musicians. Although I don't consider myself a musician, but that's another story. I hope Reverb stays as it currently is, a great place to buy and sell musical gear for musicians and bad guitar players.
  12. I'm crazy about small body Gibson's L-00, LG-1, LG-2. The tone is unmistakable Gibson. But this is just my opinion. others will vary.
  13. I have a LG-2 that was made in late 2014, I bought it in 2015 and the binding has changed color from a white to tint similar to that. Also it appears the spruce top has gotten darker as well.
  14. Problem solved until this winter when the air gets dry, I don't own a guitar that is quite in the dry winter air.
  15. My intentions are to solve a problem seeking input from folks, I didn't want to ruffle anyone's feathers. But it seems some folks get riled up about things. Hell, I have never bought a "perfect" guitar and I probably never will. I don't think they exist. I don't mind tinkering with things, especially guitars. Now dig this. I drag a solid state amp down from upstairs and plug Les Jr. into it last night. Not a peep of hum, I tried to get it to hum, it wouldn't do it. I plug in my Tele, no hum, I plug in my LG-2 no hum. And I thought to myself-Huh! So I plug into my Vox and I get hum using all three guitars. It was then I discovered the power supply to the Vox was not flush with the amp. I secured it and guess what.
  16. To quote that great American, J D Clampett. “Wee Doggies!” That’s a sweet looking guitar.
  17. Rock 'n Roll School. I got a cold one in the refrigerator' I'm gonna' visit soon Can of smoked oysters and hot sauce too! Got a Telecaster that I made. Got vintage pickups Gives me the tone I crave. Sippin' and pickin' is what I like to do Pickin' and sippin' is my rock 'n roll school. Picked some Hank and Hank Jr Those two cats are really cool. Picked some Merle and Steve Earl too. And when I'm down and feelin' blue Picked some Townes Van Zandt, That big ole White Freightliner always pulls me through. Written by a no talent hack.
  18. Thanks, "Aqualung, my friend."
  19. I just read that Reverb.com has been sold to Etsy.com for 275 million. Good? Bad? or does it really matter?
  20. Well, it's not the end of the world for me to pull the pots out and shield the cavity. I shielded a few guitars in my time. And It's a 1500.00 guitar, so I didn't pay an arm an leg. But I have in my time played 5-6K guitars that sounded like a garbage truck backing over a trash can too. Price and brand doesn't ensure you have a guitar that is going to deliver the tone you're chasing. Not a big deal to shield, I will say this Gibson cleans up very nice at vol 4, sounds so pretty and clean like a church choir. Get around 7 and it's hell on wheels, all hot and nasty. Just the way I like 'em.
  21. Thanks. I'll order tape from Stew Mac.
  22. From the list you posted I would say all are worthy. It really comes down to what you want to spend, if one is a better deal than the others that would be the one to buy.
  23. The closest I got to a Corvette was a BMW Z-3, it was 10 years old when I bought it. The car was a death trap. These days I’m trying to find a 1969 Vista Cruiser station wagon. Now that’s my style.
  24. Guitars are like women, they will cost you money, but unlike woman, guitars will never tell you no. If you dig this guitar, and I think you do, do it right and send it to Gibson or to Dan Erlewine.
  25. The place blows my mind. I get dizzy just being there. This past May I went up to see The Who and dropped by Carters. Played a 1957 Les Jr single cut tobacco burst. They want 4800 for it. I couldn’t get that guitar out of my mind, even though the amp I was playing through quit working in the booth I was in. So I buy a 2019 tobacco burst. Less money.
