  1. Did you look over the ones on the market for a ballpark sense of the value? Is yours all original...tuners, pick-up? Knobs look right. I'm figuring if it was stashed in the basement you may not be interested in playing it, or even keeping it. https://reverb.com/p/gibson-es-150
  2. It would be hard for an inexperienced re-finisher to match the color, since it is embedded in the lacquer, rather than over stained mahogany. If the rest of the guitar is in VG condition, I would consider the flaking to be a negligible reduction in it's market value vs. a poorly done re-finish. If the inside looks stained and you have to explain the cause, a buyer might be more reluctant. It sounds like you may be attached to it, so maybe you have time to find the right restorer.
  3. You're truly lucky it's not a worse scenario. Amazing that there's no warping. It looks to be only a finish issue, but option 2 would be the one to eliminate. Either of the other two would be good, based on your aesthetic preference. A great guitar, no doubt. Congratulations.
  4. ...that, too! Good advice! Forgot it was 'new'.
  5. There might be little you can do, as wood and their finishes will move a little anyway, despite your attempts at humidification, until that particular guitar finds it's settling point. If those cracks progress further I would have them repaired from underneath and install a couple of pre-emptive strike cleats.
  6. Ren? Isn't he over at Guild in Oxnard?
  7. I'm not sure of 'bluzguy's familiarity with the nomenclature of the 3/4 LG2. He might just be referring to the size in comparison to the J, where whatever he's shopping still might be an Xbraced LG2. That's why I suggested he check. His sense that somehow the tech misled him says a lot.
  8. That's nasty. Sorry to hear. Better double check the 3/4 LG, as it might be a ladder-braced guitar, which would be ball-less in the company of a Gibson J or a Martin D.
  9. That's what I hear. And I thought I tuned my guitars down!
  10. Existence is over-rated.
  11. Good one! Thanks! Watch those carbs.
  12. Some drill holes, wounding their guitars, but I use these loops attached behind the nut so the strap can be on/off'd easily. The other strap pin should already be installed at the very bottom. https://www.ebay.com/itm/391039173466
  13. 'Pros from Dover'!? 'Kelly's Heroes' reference? Nice.
  14. That takes brass balls, and aside from reducing it's market value (as you know), you'll likely slightly alter it's voice, hopefully not scarring the wood, any rosette or binding. I've stripped a couple, bridge removed, happy with the results. I'm probably wrong, but I assume the tint is is all encased in the finish, but you'll likely get to bare wood. Mohawk finishing lacquers worked for me. I hope someone who knows more chimes in.
  15. I'm never serious...and getting worse by the day.
  16. This conversation must be setting a record for discussions about a guitar that there aren't any pictures of.
  17. Is there any other kind for certain songs? Is it easier to go flat from finger, or vice versa, never mind a mix?
  18. Nice, Dave! That's one of the finer looking new Gibson's I've seen, but I might have asked them to leave off the guard, though that one fits in gracefully. I know I sound dumb, but I can't figure out what M2M means.
  19. Right...change my figure to maybe 600 bucks, since someone stripped the finish.

  21. You been gipped, I think. Unless you paid only around a thousand bucks, fair for a ladder-braced Gib, and love the thing, you have a real gripe with the shop. Read up here...http://www.guitarhq.com/gibson6.html#lg
  22. Thanks, BK! Both Miner clips are funky and raw. Always great to have those beginner flatpicking lesson vids when winter makes shut-ins out of us. My L00 will get new strings and a workout today.
