  1. Plus - I found Merciful's 3 foot classical James Bond theme guy much more interesting than the OP's question on a 50 year old guitar probably owned by 7 people before him.
  2. Oh, GIBSON Explorers ... I thought we were talking about FORD Explorers. But - it is always cool when someone replies "Sorry, I don't know either." Sad emoji guy - there's only two habitual offenders here. One isn't on this thread. Yet.
  3. Probably the classic sound most people search for in acoustic guitars. And ...... MAPLE !!!!!
  4. if he's said "AND THEN Shirley Basse arrived" it would have implied she made it better. But he said 'but'. So ....
  5. I knew this would be stepping on your toes !! But, remember: "Plagiarism is the highest form of flattery."
  6. I think the point of the essay was not to focus on one word as it might have been used in one century or another, either in Nashville or K'zoo - but to provide a non-cork sniffer who was looking at Gibson Acoustics a bit of history laced with a bit of marketing romance.
  7. Stumbled across this on Guitar Center's website whilst looking at resonator guitars. It seems to provide a lot of good info and was put out only 4 months ago. I think several years ago, one of our illustrious members - One Wiley Fool - put together a list of all the known past and present J45 models and it topped 100, albeit some were just special because they were special colors. Since it's this website hosts most recognized acoustic - thought it should be available for those interested. Enjoyable reading. https://www.guitarcenter.com/riffs/buying-guides/guitars/gibson-j45-acoustic-guitar-history-guide
  8. If someone from the appropriate group were to sue them for all they own, it would put the necessary brakes on all this "AI" bee-ehs'. Saw an ad on tv for AI designed eyeglasses. Lens, not the frames. Like Sparque - I will not click on anything that is described as being AI created. In this case - John Lennon's estate should bring the perpetrator to court and sue them for all they own. Slaps on the wrist, or 'tsk, tsk, tsk' isn't going to stop this. Once Pandora's Box is opened - we won't get the Genie back in after granting our 3 wishes. A good start would be to usurp the nerds self-congratulatory naming of this as 'Artificial Intelligence' and call it what it really is - "Computers Telling Us What To Do, Think and More."
  9. I assume they start with a blank engraved p/g and paint it, and then polish off the paint on the surface while leaving the paint in the engraved design ?
  10. Sometimes Bozeman will put a pair of damp socks in a J45 to humidify it and forget to remove them in QC before they ship it. Other than that, there are too many other possibilities including new strings of a different type on your Studio - which is a different guitar model, and as Sgt Pepper indicated, crusty, rusty, moldy strings on a ... whatever a 'lifeless' one is. I assume you played other guitars in the high end room and they all sounded fine - to you and the other guy? If so - I'm going with Damp Socks. Hopefully fresh from the washing machine and not the gym.
  11. Yep. Well said. "Culture" is over-rated. Most of us just play. Don't have time or patience or desire to take time from that to do otherwise. Sort of like - Would you rather play baseball or collect baseball cards ?
  12. We have people here who should have caught that typo before you did ! 🙃 Glad it has worked out so well for you. The best is yet to come - playing it until it feels natural and your ears adjust to the undertones !
  13. The joke is - Miranda Lambert would be laughing hysterically if she read this thread in between her concerts and studio sessions. To clarify - the point Lars68 made was that WE HERE are not The Bozeman Marketing sub-committee, nor are we even their target market. Not a 'focus group'... Some of us don't even actually OWN any Gibson Acoustics. Many haven't bought one in this century. So when we start pixxing about them producing a Blue H'Bird Signature Model ... I'm guessing the Bozeman employee assigned to 'monitor' this forum is being punished. This is his "Time Out" for too many glue drops inside the body.
  14. Welcome Aboard KJ ! Congrats on a perfect 'first real guitar' !! Most everyone starts out with a 'student level' in case we find out we're not really interested in the uphill climb. Yours is a really good choice. As far as the swirls... wait and see. It could just be superficial - in the polish the previous owner put on for the photo shoot and not the actual finish. Nitrocellulose is a bit 'soft' when new. Maybe a year ?? But it is also a bit forgiving. I too only use the Gibson Pump Polish. Some feel it can 'restore' very minor flaws in the nitro over time. I did have one spot it took care of. Others here swear by Virtuoso brand polishes. And some Meguirs detailing auto polish to remove minor scratches and swirls. I believe the product which is a super-fine polishing wax, not the kind you'd apply with a buffer and eye protection ! Many only 'clean' their guitar with a very slightly damp micro-fibre cloth. But, some say that is also too abrasive and recommend soft flannel. You can see almost ANY scratches on a black guitar with a high gloss finish. Some will take a very slightly abrasive polish to tone down the shine. Think 150 sandpaper VS 400 grit. etc. It might be worth leaving it as it is: Removing any of the 'protective' finish gets you closer to bare wood ! And after a short while, you won't notice it. You don't want to keep polishing out swirls every time you see one!! Congrats !
  15. I knew a little about her (Texas Native, etc.) but thought I'd 'google' her. She's won more awards from the Academy of Country Music than any other artist in history. Been performing for over 20 years. Photos of her playing an H'Bird almost as long. With major success and collaborations, 'Pistol Annies' just to name one. So - IF the reason for this guitar is because she wants to inspire little girls to play and enjoy guitar, I'd say collaborating with Gibson to come up with a "BlueBird" is a good way of doing it. Or should she have gotten her name on a $300 Mexi-Martin?
  16. Gibson had for awhile, may have again - a J45 that came in "Pelham Blue". Dave F noted above the beautiful blue (lefty) H'Bird that member emeritus Buc had. I guess I don't understand why people who love electric guitars painted with neon purple and glitter will get apoplectic over an acoustic stained in a primary color.
  17. That sort of limits your choices though, doesn't it? Banjos are making a comeback.
  18. Guild ... Gretcsh... would you like to buy a vowel? Say an "i" ??
  19. Had to add that dig that the injured party will get a Gibson to replace his Martin - to see if I could get a rise out of someone here. You could call it 'Trolling" , but since this is a Gibson site, I guess you'd have to call it something else.
  20. I've used it on Gibson's engraved/painted p'guards as well with no noticeable effect. I assume Gibson specs required the polish to NOT harm their pick guards. And, I assume if there were some link - we would have had dozens of people 'reporting' it here.
  21. If the guitar guy had a GOOD lawyer, he would have gotten a new guitar out of this (probably a Gibson) AND he would have gotten a $Million for Pain and Suffering and another $Million of punitive damages. And, based on the lawyer's usual take - another $2M for legal fees.
  22. Is that why Electric Cars never need to be re-charged ?
  23. Dated September. Hopefully the guy got 'made whole' as the legal eagles call it. Or, screwed as the insurance adjusters call it. We often hear here - "Don't hang your guitar on an exterior wall, due to the possibility of heat and cold and humidity getting it." Here's another reason. But really, in a case in a closet - you'd think it'd be safe. Too bad the Cable Guy didn't hit an electrical wire first.
  24. I remember reading somewhere that in the old USSR - people would bring their burned out lightbulbs to work, and secretly take out a working one and put in their broken one. I don't know if they couldn't AFFORD new ones, or they weren't available, or they were 'rationed'. Sort of the opposite of Detroit's unusual approach. I wish the city water company here would replace my dead grass - since their watering restrictions killed it.
