  1. Nope . I said personally I didn’t like that D 28 conversation… but I do like Martin guitars mostly their style 18 small bodies and style 15 small bodies . I’ve stated from day 1 that I’m not a fan of Rosewood guitars for the most part but I’m sure there’s a couple out there I would dig . JC
  2. No , only for the body which is Satin Nitrocellulose Lacquer. For the Fingerboard you want to watch this video for proper cleaning method : JC
  3. Folks , Check it out: Personally my favorites were the SJ -100 and the J 185 . I thought the Martin sounded like junk . Obviously you can’t get a detailed opinion just by a YouTube video … but it’s what we got to enjoy and comment about . JC
  4. Also keep in mind Gibson developed their sunburst as a way to hide flaws in the wood , historically the blonde (natural)guitars had the prettiest wood because you would be able to see everything. With a sunburst you can shade things to darken certain imperfections in the wood . JC
  5. Wow , what a find ! old mahogany is gold !!! JC
  6. D, Use some Gibson polish : https://www.gibson.com/Gear/Cleaning-and-Care/AIGG-910 A few drops usually do the trick . You can use an old (but clean)cotton shirt or rag to wipe it down .You don’t have to do it too often , just once every few months . Let us know if you have further questions . JC
  7. RIP Mr. Charlie Watts . Had the privilege of seeing the Stones twice (2015 and 2017) and i value it more now. JC
  8. Only on the neck joint . The braces and everything else uses modern glue … for hide glue on the braces you have to purchase a Historic Model or order a custom through a dealer . JC
  9. Apparently Paul Weller scored one of the NG’s J 150’s : JC
  10. Here’s a demo : i hope it helps you make up your mind JC
  11. It seems people expect maple to figure straight like mahogany or rosewood do for the most part … it doesn’t.Maple figures completely different .The “lines” or figure patterns can go in different directions . Bob Taylor taps into this a little : JC
  12. That was the whole point of The J 150 to use up the sets of maple that had little to no figure in them . I think Noel says in the video that his had almost no flame . JC
  13. If you think this or other kind of flaws are unthinkable on a Martin … you haven’t seen enough Martins . You didn’t mention what store you purchased it from ? It would be interesting to know . The entire reason of buying a guitar in a shop , playing it and going over it in the shop … is an experience that avoids these situations most of the time . As a guy who has had to custom order left handed Gibsons I can tell you their Quality Control is very good and this is not the norm . JC
  14. AM, Welcome ! To answer your question … Yes !!! It’s solid maple . 2A plain maple to be exact while the standard got 3 A figured maple . JC
  15. WF, Actually … they were only offered for 2 years it seems . The first year was the year they had richlite and inlays and the second year the model was revised and it made more sense to put walnut and no inlays on something deemed sustainable. Dave Davies of The Kinks picked one up (L 00 body )from the London Showroom a while back .His is a first year model as shown by the inlays : https://www.instagram.com/p/CQlh0QwMhEm/?utm_medium=copy_link JC
  16. What year did you purchase the guitar ? JC
  17. From the serial number the guitar is a few years old … Any number of things could have happened to that guitar especially at Sam Ash. JC
  18. I say if you love the tone .Keep it and embrace what nature has produced for you in that piece of Sitka Spruce. you might get a perfect top next time that won’t blow your socks off . Just my 2 cents JC
  19. A 3rd NG J 150 is now on Reverb (4th if we count the first one from Japan) JC
  20. I understand that if they are long scale it makes them uninteresting to you …but not for me .The whole point of it for me is it’s the best of both worlds . I love the regular birds as well but these just tickle my maple obsession. From a sold listing of a different one I pulled : Up for your consideration is this fabulous Gibson Maple Hummingbird. The serial number is 104906 which clearly makes this one of the famed 1963 Hummingbirds that were made from the Dove bodies due to lack of Dove sales and a high demand for Hummingbirds that year. These aren't your average Hummingbird. They have the harder maple back and sides and a longer scale length that make them unique from most Gibsons in sound. They are BOOMERS to say the least and this one is no exception So I guess that does back up the idea these are long scale . JC
  21. It’s not the same one since Ray purchased it from a lady . I think these maple birds were all long scale . JC
  22. Personally I have very boney hands/fingers and 12-53 kills my fingers .I use 11 Ernie Ball Earthwoods on my J 200 and it’s a dream to play . You might have the same issue. JC
