By the time all those songs were mixed and whatever it would be hard to get a guitar to sound just like that

Yes , target . Something to aim for ya know , a goal . In this case ‘more volume’ There’s no need to be annoyed. If you’re going to post theories , and you do , then can’t a guy ask questions ? Isn’t that the point of the thing ? So the louder a guitar is the better it is ? Is that what you’re saying ? -

I’m not challenging you personally It’s a legitimate question Really , why would volume be a target ? -

Why would volume be a target ? I can honestly say that I’ve never had a guitar and thought this is lovely but I wish it was louder -

This is where the talk about loosing tone with a low action comes from Of course a guitar is gonna sound like poo if you’re trying to make yourself be heard over the others at a jam when you’re action is low People will struggle for years playing a guitar with action that doesn’t suit them because they’ve read a post by a fella who ‘go’s to jams regularly’ And the guy who isn’t that talented both tends to whollop his guitar because he’s ham fisted and he’s also the type who blabs opinions all over the place Edit Dave , this was in no way directed towards you You just made me think of all the guys who turn up to open sessions here for Irish trad -

You guys Now I’m doubting myself and they’re back on the list then Albeit written in pencil

It’s possible they were duds as I bought them on eBay I got dadarrio 85/15 strings on there lately and they were obviously either fakes or duds as they were like spaghetti and wouldn’t stay in tune I never thought about that when I got the sunbeams so it’s a possibility . And I now pay close attention to who I buy the strings from if I use eBay or amazon. When I say I don’t like strings I merely mean that I wouldn’t buy them again. The sunbeams aren’t cheap over here either £13 at least. I bought 6 packs of gibson strings lately as they were on sale and they’re not so bad. But if charged the £6 normal price I’d orobably just get dadarrios instead . My favourite as I say are the lifespan martins which don’t really feel like coated strings the way elixirs would. They don’t last just as long, or rather they don’t keep the tone in the same way elixirs would. The sunbeams have nothing wrong with them but I bought them on the back of all the spectacular things said on here about them and I didn’t see the difference as worth double the price We’re all looking for different things so one mans meat and all that ....
-
I just found them very dead Like all strings the difference between one and the next is minimal But they were so deft of any life
-
I hate sunbeams Elixirs after three or four weeks are good Gibson strings on it at the minute and sound good Good old dadarrio have nothing wrong with them Have reached the conclusion that 80/20’s suit me the best though But the Martin lifespans have been my favourite from going on New until they die All others find a sweet spot , might be two days after fitting might be 2 weeks But the lifespans are nice strings All 12’s , tried 11’s and noticed something missing
-
90something% You don’t think gibson make their own strings do you Fingers crossed someone will defend me
-
You could mail them and ask A potential buyer might’ve asked for a specific string to be fitted for a test drive and decided no As far as I’m aware gibson string are factory fitted , but Gibson strings are just rebranded daddarrio strings
-
This makes a bit of sense But I’m still baffled as how anyone would know that strings on a guitar , age undetermined , are different to strings still in a packet ! No offence OP , just want some of this knowledge
-
How do you know the strings in the packet aren’t the same as the strings on the guitar?

No no , don't misunderstand , I'm not poo pooing ... Am just amazed by the amount of detective work you have obviously put in There's arguments about the 'type' of guitar that Dylan used on blood on the tracks , or of course the famous nick drake guild / not guild And you know the saddle material !! Fascinating! -

How do you know this !? -
It's still there em7 Those stewmac things look a bit scary Would've been fixed ages ago until i asked all you lot and got scared If I'd listened to most of the replies about a saddle I'd never have sanded on down If I'd listened to most of the replies about changing tuning pegs , same thing But have to admit , this scratch scares me Won't be beat and I'll be the guy to fix it / mess it up If I do either , I'll tell all here
