  1. Yup too all.. This is going to be the closest thing to a proper copy I think I will ever do.... I totted it all up last night how much this is going to cost I spent about £50 just on binding... So yes.. Ebony board with block white MOP inlays, Gold MOP for the headstock inlays, custom made Nitro paint in that metallic red/pinky colour, 7 ply binding for the body, 5 ply for the headstock, gold hardware and yes, im even going to do NIBS... So far we are talking about £700 worth of materials...
  2. Another sneak preview.. The headstock design.. Until now I have been using decals for my RabsWood logo.. But for this special build I have something special planned and it will be in gold Mother of Pearl... A bit more classy than my usual dont you think 🙂
  3. Lovely guitar As the others have said.. Play slowly until you get it perfect and then speed up. And if you get too stuck, move on to something more fun and go back to it week or so.... One other thing to add is that if you are playing alone to practice. Get some sort of metronome or beat device.. Playing on the beat is just as important as playing the right notes.. So its always good to practice to a beat.
  4. The thing is, she hasnt ever really heard me play yet. When we bought the acoustic I was having real issues with my hands and didnt play it much. This time and now knowing what music she likes. I think she will be quite impressed when I demo it for her.. Not saying that im a great player but I can bash out some good AC/DC and Metallica 😄
  5. I think at the end of the day as much as I may like to think I know better, she has to chose the guitar herself. No one really knows what they like till they have some experience.. I could save her a lot of time and buy her a semi hollow but theres no way she will appreciate that I dont think. I will just make sure its a decent guitar and give it a good set up.. The rest is up to her really.
  6. Ok I thought id continue this thread in here.. As it is a continuation of Betssie's story. So she is still practicing and playing. I havent managed to get her to have a lesson with me yet even though I have offered many times. But its her birthday again soon and she does want an electric guitar. So I said I would by her a cheap one to start with and as we all know cheaper guitars are pretty good these days AND I will build her, her own one too so she has something that is unique to her 🙂 I was also really chuffed as I saw her tonight and she was listening to AC/DC Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap and wearing a Nirvana t-shirt 😄 Awesome.. I got her to look at guitars and see what shapes she likes and tonight she showed me ones she has been looking at.. Not PRS but not Gibson. She has been looking at theses. Schecter guitars. Doesnt like Les Pauls at all but does like SG shapes.. And she wants a red one.... So like last time we will go to the shop in a week or so and pick a good one out for her. It does make me happy shes getting in to all this BUT she is still young and it may be a phase.. Still, we are going in the right direction at the moment. Also I guess I will have to work out a good amp for her too. Being young she might like the modelling amps as you can control it from your phone and all kids are on their phones all the time these days..
  7. Cool.. Enjoy man. Very interesting finish on the top and I like the inlay markers too..
  8. If anyone was wondering.. I was gonna start this week but the workshop is all booked up.. So I have now booked well ahead of time and will be going in on the 11th.. So.. You can expect, most likely, probably an update on that evening 🙂 Which is ok as I am still waiting for stuff for this build anyways. I should have it all well by then..
  9. If I didnt already have my one with P90s I would have bought that by now....
  10. Ohh nice.. Thanks for that I will keep that for future use I gotta get these other builds done first though for sure.. In a way I have built a similar guitar that was chambered but it just didnt have any F holes (that flamed blue DC I did with P90s)
  11. I really need to stop looking at Reverb 😄
  12. Wow.. Another 336 M2M with P90s.. And man look at that top... https://reverb.com/uk/item/67597680-gibson-custom-shop-cs-336-quilt-top-p-90-made-to-measure
  13. How about this one https://reverb.com/uk/item/60830724-gibson-es-235-2019-black
  14. Hmm, im not 100% sure.. I have been using these pre slotted boards since I started doing this (after wasting about £80 of rosewood trying to do the frets slots myself).. So I have always had them pre done.. I think the very first time I used one I think I did the same thing but used it anyway. And all of my guitars have had zero issues with intonation... So today I went and measured the template against one of my pre slotted boards and it lined up exactly... So.. Yeah, its a bit weird.. But then we are talking tiny differences. I know some of my boards have been 24.6". I always make sure I double check the scale length before I drill for the bridge...
  15. @jdgm Wow... Look at the neck on this one https://reverb.com/uk/item/58803925-1980-gibson-es-artist-sunburst
  16. Not sure I have seen one of these before.. From 1980 and used to have a Moog system.... Interesting looking thing.. https://reverb.com/uk/item/65334809-gibson-es-artist-antique-sunburst-1980?bk=
  17. Yeah. That probably was my main thing... Let the wood do the talking... I think I only ever did two coloured guitars and both were trans finish... All the rest were natural. Also I used the snake head type headstock and a smaller headstock angle..
  18. Also I will say right now.. This will still be a RabsWood guitar.. Never would I make a fake Gibson (or fake anything).. Copy, in this case yes, fake, NOPE as I would never do that. In fact I have resisted making copies for the whole time I have been building. The way I always saw it, if you want a Fender or a Gibson, go buy one. Theres loads out there.. So I always tried to make my guitars just a bit different. This is a personal project cos I loved that LP Lite I saw and there arent any more (not that colour anyway). And I guess this is a small test for me just to see how close I can get and how much I have learned over the years.
  19. Got some templates through today.. Apparently based on 59 and laser cut. Far more accurate than I can be and saves me a hell of a lot of prep time. Have done some measurements.. Its not quite perfect.. The cut away bits where the neck and headstock meet arent quite right and while the calculation of the fretboards 12th fret and the bridge are right, when I line the fretboard blank up to one of my Gibsons wile the overall length is right the spaces between the frets dont quite match up to any of my LPs... However thats ok as I dont need those measurements. Usually my fretboards come pre slotted (even though that guy has stopped selling them now 😮 )...
  20. Depends on which year you are talking. I have one from 2002 which has no fancy electronics...
  21. There are lots of LPs.. But in basic terms.. The Standard is their flagship model and used to change quite dramatically each year.. Since 2018 they have kept the line up pretty much the same.. (was it 2018? When did the new boss come in?) ... Anyway.. These days they have the Standard 60s and 50s which generally refers to the neck profile.. 60s being slimmer. In 2015 Gibson went a bit crazy and changed the whole line up quite drastically. The guitars came with auto tuners, wide necks and metal nuts with a zero fret.. That didnt go down very well so after a short while (in 2016) they came back with the Traditional line or T models they were called or the Modern series which had the auto tuners and a sculpted neck heal and other stuff to do with the electronics... Then they stopped doing the auto tuners but we are still left with the Modern and the Original series. Which is what it sounds like. Then theres the LP Classic which is at a lower price point than the Standard as is the LP Traditional. The Classic has a slim tapered neck and is a nod to the 60s while the Traditional have the fatter 50s necks and some years they came non weight relieved. After that you have the LP Studios (also known as Faded and Tribute) which are full on LPs built by the same people who build the above guitars using the same woods and electronics. But they are cheaper as they have no binding and a very thin finish compared to the Standards and the like. So if you dont care about the ultra shiny finish they are actually a really good choice. So, theres some info off the top of my head for you... Hope that helps a bit. I think the biggest thing about all this is you must try them first. LPs can be a bit odd in that way. Some people have to really search to find that "one" as they all feel and play slightly different due to the fact they are all hand finished so the exact neck angle and the neck radius and sized are all slightly different. It turns out those small differences make quite a big difference. But thats all just down to personal taste.
  22. Yes.. It may be to do with the metric and imperial system. Whenever I got to do a tuner swap on say an Epi or something Chinese built I always forget you need to widen the holes by a mm or two.. Its really annoying..
  23. I will only be interested/worried when they start saying that the AI is conscious. Then we really should be worried.. But who knows, maybe it will be the making of us and the AI wont just try to kill us all like they do in the films.. Maybe it will try and helps us and we end up in golden human/computer age... Interesting days ahead, thats for sure.
