  1. Hmm, im not 100% sure.. I have been using these pre slotted boards since I started doing this (after wasting about £80 of rosewood trying to do the frets slots myself).. So I have always had them pre done.. I think the very first time I used one I think I did the same thing but used it anyway. And all of my guitars have had zero issues with intonation... So today I went and measured the template against one of my pre slotted boards and it lined up exactly... So.. Yeah, its a bit weird.. But then we are talking tiny differences. I know some of my boards have been 24.6". I always make sure I double check the scale length before I drill for the bridge...
  2. @jdgm Wow... Look at the neck on this one https://reverb.com/uk/item/58803925-1980-gibson-es-artist-sunburst
  3. Not sure I have seen one of these before.. From 1980 and used to have a Moog system.... Interesting looking thing.. https://reverb.com/uk/item/65334809-gibson-es-artist-antique-sunburst-1980?bk=
  4. Yeah. That probably was my main thing... Let the wood do the talking... I think I only ever did two coloured guitars and both were trans finish... All the rest were natural. Also I used the snake head type headstock and a smaller headstock angle..
  5. Also I will say right now.. This will still be a RabsWood guitar.. Never would I make a fake Gibson (or fake anything).. Copy, in this case yes, fake, NOPE as I would never do that. In fact I have resisted making copies for the whole time I have been building. The way I always saw it, if you want a Fender or a Gibson, go buy one. Theres loads out there.. So I always tried to make my guitars just a bit different. This is a personal project cos I loved that LP Lite I saw and there arent any more (not that colour anyway). And I guess this is a small test for me just to see how close I can get and how much I have learned over the years.
  6. Got some templates through today.. Apparently based on 59 and laser cut. Far more accurate than I can be and saves me a hell of a lot of prep time. Have done some measurements.. Its not quite perfect.. The cut away bits where the neck and headstock meet arent quite right and while the calculation of the fretboards 12th fret and the bridge are right, when I line the fretboard blank up to one of my Gibsons wile the overall length is right the spaces between the frets dont quite match up to any of my LPs... However thats ok as I dont need those measurements. Usually my fretboards come pre slotted (even though that guy has stopped selling them now 😮 )...
  7. Depends on which year you are talking. I have one from 2002 which has no fancy electronics...
  8. There are lots of LPs.. But in basic terms.. The Standard is their flagship model and used to change quite dramatically each year.. Since 2018 they have kept the line up pretty much the same.. (was it 2018? When did the new boss come in?) ... Anyway.. These days they have the Standard 60s and 50s which generally refers to the neck profile.. 60s being slimmer. In 2015 Gibson went a bit crazy and changed the whole line up quite drastically. The guitars came with auto tuners, wide necks and metal nuts with a zero fret.. That didnt go down very well so after a short while (in 2016) they came back with the Traditional line or T models they were called or the Modern series which had the auto tuners and a sculpted neck heal and other stuff to do with the electronics... Then they stopped doing the auto tuners but we are still left with the Modern and the Original series. Which is what it sounds like. Then theres the LP Classic which is at a lower price point than the Standard as is the LP Traditional. The Classic has a slim tapered neck and is a nod to the 60s while the Traditional have the fatter 50s necks and some years they came non weight relieved. After that you have the LP Studios (also known as Faded and Tribute) which are full on LPs built by the same people who build the above guitars using the same woods and electronics. But they are cheaper as they have no binding and a very thin finish compared to the Standards and the like. So if you dont care about the ultra shiny finish they are actually a really good choice. So, theres some info off the top of my head for you... Hope that helps a bit. I think the biggest thing about all this is you must try them first. LPs can be a bit odd in that way. Some people have to really search to find that "one" as they all feel and play slightly different due to the fact they are all hand finished so the exact neck angle and the neck radius and sized are all slightly different. It turns out those small differences make quite a big difference. But thats all just down to personal taste.
  9. Yes.. It may be to do with the metric and imperial system. Whenever I got to do a tuner swap on say an Epi or something Chinese built I always forget you need to widen the holes by a mm or two.. Its really annoying..
  10. I will only be interested/worried when they start saying that the AI is conscious. Then we really should be worried.. But who knows, maybe it will be the making of us and the AI wont just try to kill us all like they do in the films.. Maybe it will try and helps us and we end up in golden human/computer age... Interesting days ahead, thats for sure.
  11. Ok thats great.. Cheers.. Just wanted to double check that. I know from experience that the pots need at least 28mm in the control cavity and yu need an extra few mm for the control cover, so yeah.. Had to be over 30mm.. Nice..
  12. Also while we are at it.. @merciful-evans Could you please do me a favour.. I cant actually find any specs on how thick the backs are on the LP Lite or indeed Less Plus.. Could you measure it for me? I have a feeling it will be 30-35mm but it would be good to find out. Cheers.
  13. Is it not to do with Neck and Bridge difference? Because of the taper from the nut to the bridge the string spacing is a mm or so smaller at the neck compared to the bridge..
  14. Ahh man.. So sorry to hear that.. As you know, I understand that loss. Also in a similar vein. I was in one of my unemployment bouts when Brutus went. So the last six months of his life we were together every day and I treasure that time to this day.. And to this day having him put down was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. To let him go. But I know it was the right thing to do despite how much I wanted him to stay. And you did the right thing, as I am sure you know. And Ichabod can rest and is not in pain any more. That really is the most important thing how ever hard it is. Take care man...
  15. Ha.. Well im not sure it will be that exciting 🙂 And also now, I am waiting on some stuff to be delivered so it may not be till the week after now but I may go in next week anyway and continue with some of the builds I started last year to get my luthier chops up a bit 😄 Two London Plane guitars, one all walnut and one flamed top, all double cuts... So I do have plenty to do anyway.
  16. Ok.. I got wood 😄 Went to a local timber place that does Sapele cos I want this to be traditional mahogany and maple and the place I worked at only does English hardwood. LOADS of stuff to select from. Heres the neck piece I found which they cut up for me so I didnt have to buy the whole thing And my haul.. I had to buy a 3 meter long piece but thats enough for three bodies.. That and the neck cost me just over £100. Then over to my old work place to look for some maple. And this is the piece I got.. Wide enough for a one piece top. £40. Would have been cheaper but they only had 50mm stock. You can see even before its clean theres some flame going on there. Not that anyone will see it once its sprayed but hey ho 🙂 Then I snuck in to the workshop and cleaned one of the Sapele bits. NICE!! Nice.. So I will book a place at the workshop next week and get going on this build. I will start a new build thread for it though 🙂
  17. Different thing. Not that I know much about them but from what I know they are built by Gibson and just hark back to the days before Gibson owned them and they had some good and well known guitars in their own right... These new ones are still built at the same place all the other Epis are built.
  18. The new Epiphone inspired by Gibson Custom line. Seems a bit odd to me.. Surely this now eats right in to the low end Gibson market so they are competing with themselves?
  19. And not surprisingly, that one has gone now.. Probably bought by a dealer who will try and sell it for 5k it was up for sale for like 13 hours...... Hopefully bought by a player that will play and love it...
  20. How about an L4 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/275748808133?hash=item4033e8e5c5:g:xLAAAOSwh~BkFBes&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4NI8iO8giRXMwb6GTPWU5WrQmGmOO2e10HF%2FX0wKXeQ1CkascX9nJuZlhGm7Hy%2FCM%2BdcFsm0oNlFVyqB7VW91MYuQibX7iMu6R6X2Rl1pqjXQsUH5pkR%2Bcb8hpEht3%2BDNe3Zwvn%2BzhQuEAckR0llUVIOSKG53KiXJS94XU9wJ0%2FeIETIl2vd15zIedhx3VHB%2BrpHEpgFKF4WoqriDVpIhy5oQmgFiZTBsQ0NDhofWrOZEp77id4ODlDwV%2BXfIb2gV3TiYOR%2BQaoO1TcSUcuSrG8UoQ8J4uIIuGgfa%2FDJY34u|tkp%3ABk9SR5DopPreYQ
  21. Nice.. @jdgm will like that 🙂
  22. No.. He has one that looks like that but is a 335 size.. This was a limited run from 2013.
  23. If I didnt already have two I would snap that up... Always liked pelham blue and the diamond sound holes look cool. I dont understand the pricing these days.. Something like this or my P90 336 goes for £2600 ish (if no one buys it, it will go down to that) that is rare and beautiful yet a standard 336 which you can find loads of goes for more?? Doesnt make any sense.
  24. Another really tempting one at £2799.. Hmmmmmmmm https://reverb.com/uk/item/67040653-gibson-cs-336-dave-grohl-style-second-hand
