NGD: Gibson 2019 J-45 Walnut Custom Guitar Honey Burst
Cougar replied to thejtl's topic in Gibson Acoustic
Wow, that is a beauty! A gorgeous burst with an abalone rosette yet! Stunning! And there's something about the sound of those walnut J15/45s.... -
Thanks, Jonny. Yes, I compose a lot of my own stuff. I play what I like! I've actually got lyrics for that and tried a couple takes. I'm not a vocalist, and I did not like those takes, so I left them out for the time being. I've continued to practice that piece for months, and I've got to re-record it. I guess I'll try the vocals again, and add some blues harp for a chorus or two. Thanks again!

Here's one I played/improvised/home-multitracked probably over 30 years ago with keyboards. I called it Leaving L.A.....

Most, if not all, of the J-15s have a solid walnut back. The J-15 gets great reviews for a surprisingly good tone bouncing off that walnut. Should be the same, if not better, with the J-45. Major congrats!
-
Far OUT! And welcome to the boards!
-
Interesting! Thanks for the info!
-
I do solo multitracking with Cubase Elements 8.
-
Nice! And I can see why!
-
Oh well. I typically buy used anyway, like this 2006 Songwriter Studio Deluxe 12-string that's on its way across the country to me!
-
People like 'em and keep 'em?
-
Why is acceptable headstock design today different than it was in the 60s?

My New Epiphone Inspired By 1964 Texan
Cougar replied to Viktorija Arsic's topic in Epiphone Acoustics
Yeah, that is a gorgeous burst! Major congrats, Vik, and welcome to the boards. And that dark fretboard looks like ebony! Sweet! -
Yep, they're shiny. Congrats, Rev! I've been selling a number of my Epiphones, but not my EJ-160E!
-
Well done, Rev!

I've got the Lennon signature model. I love it because.... it's the Lennon signature model! The sound and playability are typical for a fairly inexpensive Epiphone -- not bad, but not like a much more expensive Gibson. I love the position of that mag pickup, but it's not tremendously powerful. You'll probably want to run it through a pre-amp or else crank up the volume. I think you ought to get one!
-
Seems rather limiting. Good luck with that.
-
The J15 fits the bill. I did the research and was just about to get one; then I got, uh, distracted.
-
No problem, Richie. My internet personality is more like Kung-Fu Master, as opposed to Big Dog and Me-Too.
-
Well, if you already knew the answer, why did you need our chopped liver opinions?
-
I think that's an exaggeration. And a generalization. Yes, those old Korean-made Epiphones are good. But so is every Chinese-made and Indonesian-made Epiphone that I've ever seen. You tell us if you see and hear any difference!
-
Yes, I've heard that the early 70s were not good years for Epis, or Gibsons for that matter. That is not the case anymore, of course, and hasn't been for at least a couple decades. Wise advice, but it's tough to justify a $2,000 guiltar if you're a beginner, or not that serious about playing. It's usually an "evolutionary" thing, though. The more into you get, the better guitar you want. Here's my latest. It should be quite a while before I think I need a better guitar! . 2011 Guild F50R

Thanks, L8! She's definitely a daily player.
-
I want one!

Great pickup, Dave! Those Epi 12ers sure are pretty. I got really hooked on 12-strings, and still am. I wanted something a little thicker sounding than my old 1970s Epi 12. Picked up a Takamine. Enjoyed it for a while, just enough so that I wanted a really nice 12. And to me and my research, that means Guild. Got a great deal on the JF30-12 pictured below. Corona-built. Gotta have that ebony fretboard! Unbraced arched lam back. Undersaddle pickup. Love this thing. Later I grabbed a deal on what I consider the ultimate 12 - Guild F412. Gorgeous... Action was good, but the saddle was a bit low. I had the pin slots ramped to get better break angle and volume. Still didn't quite bond with that baby, so sold it. This JF30-12 is just too good....
