  1. Hope you enjoy it. My favourites off it are the title track, Play Ball and Baptism by Fire.
  2. Yes, Power Up is a very good album. I thought Rock or Bust was great too. A lot of people get stuck on a certain album by a band and don't believe they can make any good albums after, which is nonsense!
  3. Good points. Yes, I guess many years ago they created interest in a band/ artist. Never thought of that. I'm not sure we need them now though with all the access we have through the internet and music streaming things. Sometimes it can be interesting to read others reviews I guess, but often reviewers for music magazines, newspapers etc. annoy me! A lot of reviewers seem to jump on in with the times...like back in the late 90's when almost everyone was saying how bands like Radiohead were amazing and then slating a lot of rock stuff...like influencing a generation that it was not cool to like rock anymore. Sad thing is it seemed to work with most people! It's often similar with the news...a form of brainwashing people to all think the same!
  4. I'd like them to do a run of Les Paul Artisans and 'The Les Paul' (the one with mainly wooden parts). Can't say I've ever tried either, but they look beautiful.
  5. To the OP, I know this isn't what you meant by starting this thread, but I have often wondered why we need reviews for the arts? So someone can tell us what we are supposed to like or not. I can make up my own mind. Case in point, I watched a film last year and enjoyed it, then looked it up on Rotten Tomatoes and it scored terribly. Apparently it means I'm not meant to like it?! Another example is that music critic Robert Christgau. He thinks he's some kind of God to music reviews and I don't believe he can play an instrument or knows anything about music theory so why is his opinion valid at all? Just a thought.
  6. It's refreshing how Sgt. Pepper and a few others on here are so positive! I think the Rolling Stones can do whatever they like and probably don't care if people don't like it. Some of the Rolling Stones music I love and some not so much, but they should keep making new music as long as they can. Good for them.
  7. Take a moment to appreciate how good they were at there peak..,even though Axl never sang this one as good live as on the album.
  8. I actually think 'Perhaps' is a great song. I also liked Hard Skool and Absurd is pretty good (reminded me of the Spaghetti Incident sound - Down on the Farm). I was pleased to hear Axl's voice sounded great, probably because the recordings are from 20 years ago. For me the Use Your Illusion albums were the highpoint of the band, Coma, Locomotive, Breakdown, Don't Damn Me, Perfect Crime, The Garden, Right Next Door to Hell, 14 Years, Double Talkin' Jive...so many brilliant songs on those albums. It's annoying that critics/ people only seem to go on about how great 'Appetite' was and forget the Illusions. Yeah, Appetite was great, but the Illusion expanded their sound and were more interesting. There's people who like the harder stuff on them and people who like the softer stuff and these people complain they should have just been 1 album, I myself think they shouldn't have cut anything as I liked all of it. Not a bad song on either UYI 1 or 2...well except My World I guess, but even that is interesting. I must admit Sweet Child O' Mine and November Rain get a bit annoying now, but that's only because I've heard them a million times. I loved Lies and the Spaghetti Incident too. The only album I didn't like was Chinese Democracy, but that was Axl's solo project. The new 'Chinese era' recordings sound good mainly because of the input of Duff and Slash I think. Just need Izzy.
  9. I have the ones in my profile pic - ES 175, ES 5 & L5, plus a couple of Epi's and a Godin. I can confirm they are amazing for certain styles, but I'd opt for a Les Paul, SG, Strat or Tele for most gigs as they are more versatile generally.
  10. Bet that was a fun gig! I've only ever dabbled in Madonna, I just own Ray of Light and now Like A Prayer, but she had a lot of great pop tunes.
  11. Yes, that is a bit weird considering she has never been remotely rock or indeed rock and roll. Those bands should surely be in. Having said that I don't think R&R HOF is as important as it thinks it is.
  12. One of the last albums I bought was Modanna's 'Like A Prayer'. Oh Father is an amazing song.
  13. Both a Gibson or Epi would be a great guitar. I have a bunch of both and some of my Epi's are still my favourite guitars up there with the Gibson's. I have an awesome Epi ES 175 which whilst it not be quite up to the tone and feel of my Gibson ES 175 is still a fantastic guitar. I'd say go with the Epi and one day look at getting the Gibson 335. Gibson's will go up in value generally, Epi's stay about the same. You can use Epiphones for professional purposes and they hold up. I used my 2016 LP Custom for some recording a while back and couldn't really tell a massive tonal difference from recordings I've done with my Gibson LP's.
  14. Your guitar looks great! I see you have a couple of the same (well almost same guitars) as me. I too have a '57 BB RI, but with 3 pickups and a Bigsby. Here's a video I did on mine a while back...no playing, just talking about the guitar Legendary Guitars Part 2. The Gibson 1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue. A short discussion - YouTube
  15. Very nice! I have the exact same guitar in my collection from 2013. They are great guitars, but I'm still not an expert with using the b bender!
  16. The Roots are a pretty well known band and have had quite a few albums in the US top 10. It's hip hop stuff and I can't say I'm a big fan, but I bought the guitar mainly on it's own merit without really being bothered about the 'signature'. A late 60's type SG Custom was always high on my list of guitars to get.
  17. Thanks Dub-T, hope you are well. The 2013 run only cost around £1,149 when I got it, which is very very reasonable for a SG based on a late 60's Custom and with so many features and the new ones were pretty well priced too. You can get an amazing array of sounds from it, suitable for everything from country to jazz to metal etc.
  18. Thanks! On the newer models they have an extra control, I think it's a blend volume...though would have to check. The original 2013 run which mine is from doesn't have it, but has a 'togpot' on the switch to blend the pickups. I'd like to test out one of the new ones and compare to mine.
  19. Not sure if this has been said, but a standard type LP might be a little heavy for her. I'd go second hand and get either a Epi Special II or an LP100 as they are both a slimmer body and if you find a good one they are exceptionally good guitars for the price. Some of the 90's LP100's are incredibly good.
  20. Cheers. You should check out a Kirk Douglas if you get chance. Guessing nobody else here has one?
  21. I've had a Kirk Douglas SG for 10 years now and have been playing it quite a bit lately. Thought some of you guys might enjoy seeing it in action. Anyone own one of the new ones that came out recently?
  22. Nice! I've never seen either PJ or AIC, but would have loved to see them back in the early 90's. Yeah PJ did change their sound a lot after Vs., but I do like some of their later output like Binaural and the self titled album. Shame they never went fully back to their early sound. Primus I have not listened to much, though a friend of mine had one of their albums when I was a teenager about 25 years ago which sounded ok.
  23. Dirt was good, but quite plodding in places. The first 2 songs are amazing, but I often struggle to make it all the way through after that. Much preferred Vs. by Pearl Jam as it was had way more energy and is probably one of the best mainstream or non mainstream albums from that period.
  24. You guys are all very negative. I didn't think it was bad at all. A few parts even reminded me stuff off Kill 'em All. I sometimes wonder if anyone on the forum actually likes music?...or at least anything released after 1989?!
