  1. That pic of Keith up there shows his slight bending over is what makes the guitar look like it's hanging low.  But this old footage will show where Keith used to wear his ax.  And that he didn't always look 50-70 years older than he really was.  [wink]

  2. Well, I didn't really care about what y'all do while seated, but since it's been brought up----

I sit slightly sideways on a stool or armless chair with my acoustic's lower curve over my right leg. Usually at a slight upward tilt.  Now I've mention(and posted) this before,  but since the additional girth I've acquired over the years, I don't stand up and play my acoustic because I wind up looking like I'm playing a guitarron when I do.  [wink]

  3. This is a thread I've initiated a few times over the years in other forums.  I notice several in here regularly play in bands that either do no more than jam together and/or play for pay in clubs and bars and such.  Which means you guys utilize the service of a guitar strap.  So what the basic query is....

Just where do you situate your guitar when playing?  Back in the "day" when I was in a band, I found I was most comfortable with the guitar hanging to where my belt buckle was center of the back of my ax.  And since at the time( and usually these days too) I wore my shirts untucked, there was no worry about my belt buckle scratching or gouging my guitar body and finish.

While watching my DVD of he Beatles' movie "A Hard Day's Night" I noticed John, Paul and George had them placed even higher, George looking to be the highest, up around his diaphragm.  Then, back in the early to mid '70's there were several punk and post-punk bands that had guitarists who had their instruments hanging so low as to nearly scrape the floor( their bending over to reach the neck and strings didn't help).  So, when it comes to YOUR guitar....

    How's it hangin'?

  4. I only remember them from this tune heard often in '68.  Liked the tune, but couldn't find their LP anywhere 'round here so gave up after a while.  Sionce then I don't recall hearing anything else by them and figured they were a one hit wonder.

But as this original member died at 72, shows how much time passes and how quickly.  Too bad and sad.  RIP, Alan.

Yeah.  Naming pets can be difficult.  But some are clever at it.  For instance...

My brother in law had a huge mutt he named "Scruffy".  And going by the dog's appearance, no other name was suitable.   And.....

My wife used to get her hair cut at a particular place.  One day while there with her I noticed a blue parakeet in a cage in the place.  So, to make conversation, I asked the girl who ran the place the parakeet's name.  She replied, "Flip."   With a puzzled tone I asked, "Flip?"  and she came back with, "Yeah, you know.... Flip.  The bird."  [cool]

My daughter once had a pet rabbit she named "Stu".   [wink]

One of my nieces once had a little toy something or other dog she named "Squeaky".  When I asked why that name, she simply said, "Step on 'im."   [biggrin]

My brother however, had one dog long ago he named "Poochie".  And years later a cat he named "Cat".     He never had any children, which is good because I couldn't imagine what THEIR names would have been.

So me and my wife are at the Farmer's Market this morning just before dawn setting up her EZ-Up.  She sells figs and baked goods.  She's all jammed in between this guy and that lady and we're all shifting our tents around to get set up and the guy is hogging his space really bad.  So I ask him to shuffle over a little and the guy's all  "Well, I didn't notice!!!!"  I told the guy the lines are painted right there on the pavement.   He's goes "I'm not intimidated by your behavior.  I'm trying to make the most of my morning and you have exssssternal problems that you need to deal with that are getting in the way of you being a good person!"

So it must be that HIS space isn't all he was hoggin', eh?   To me, it sounds as if he spends way too much of his spare time on FartBook  and forgot how to deal with real people in a real world situation.   I mean, if you didn't actually shove him and/or his tent and growl a surly "Move it over, buster!" , how would doing otherwise not make you a good person?   You claim you ASKED him to "shuffle over a little" and I have no reason to disbelieve you.  And that you asked nicely.  It appears it's HE that has the "external" problems.  And really, more like INTERNAL issues.  [wink]

  7. I can think of a couple places near me that offer some service, and another long time place that since Covid only deals in band equipment( like marching band) and maybe a few guitar related items.  The previous two places I mentioned still sell guitars and some gear and do repairs and such.

Two of the best places for years to go to were WONDERLAND MUSIC and ANDERSON'S MUSIC, both in Dearborn, MI.  But Wonderland has closed out of business some years ago while Anderson's moved from Dearborn to another city 15 miles from it's long time location.  [crying]

The other place I mentioned that sells mostly band equipment now has been there for over 50 years, but under two different names.  My ex bought the Epiphone FT-145 she gave me for Christmas of '72 there when it was still A. WEAVER.  And sometime later it became MARSHALL'S MUSIC, where I took said Epiphone to get repaired, restored and in good working order.  It's radical change really saddened me.  They don't even offer the piano and guitar lessons they were noted for anymore.

  8. I recall sometime in the late '90's there was a huge ad in my paper for a place called "Mars Music".  I went to check 'em out.  Seemed a nice place.  But a few years later I learned of a new place opened up in some other town called "Guitar Center" so I went to check THEM out, and it was the same-set up as Mars.  You know, the wall of guitars, the separate rooms for acoustics, etc.  I began to wonder whom stole that idea from whom.  And as I was just browsing, I couldn't say if the prices at one were lower than the other or just the same.  And that Mars location is long gone.
