  1. We've all seen it. Used Gibson guitars offered as 'Custom Shop' when it's the model is 'custom' or similar. There is a couple on marketplace ATM. My question is this. Do custom shop models always have split diamond inlays? Its a simple question but I fully expect the answer to be complicated.
  2. last night's listening was so good. The Ruark is absolutely great. It's small but it delivers. More CDs on the line: Fate decided (leaving) Jethro Tull - Aqualung (leaving) Anthony Braxton - Eugene (leaving) hard choice as I quite like track 4. I had several Braxton LPs on vinyl. Now I'll have none on anything! (Staying) Gary Duncan (Quicksilver) - Strange Trim. Entirely down to the final track 'Deja Voodoo' live. Glad I rediscovered that. Its terrific. I would link it if a vid was available. (leaving) Whiskeytown - Strangers Almanac once more the preferred track is at the end 'Not Home Anymore' (Staying) Cecil Taylor Unit / Roswell Rudd Sextet - Mixed. Not only staying, this will be getting LOTS of plays
  3. Funny but TBH I've had enough of Dark Star. It's hard to admit because they did it so well early on. Unlike other songs it never developed. It just became slower & longer. They rearranged Wharf Rat more than once. Not just let it evolve. It was terrific. Similar with Brokedown palace.
  4. Oh yes. John M is strictly for indulgence, and not up for dismissal! I should have made that clear. It will be Solid Air & Inside Out this evening. I don't think I know One World?! I also have BBC Radio 1 Live , Sapphire and the Live double. I saw him just once at a small venue at home in Portsmouth. GreyFolded (John Oswald's spliced up Grateful Dead's Dark Star) is leaving. 'Bill Frisell with Dave Holland and Elvin Jones' is also leaving. I got this because it features my favourite Drummer & Bass player. It's 'ok' but I wont listen to it again.
  5. In a fair world this should be noted on the house deeds & declared at sale of property
  6. I just got this little Ruark R3 music system. Its a big deal inasmuch as I've been starved of music (except for my guitar) for the 3 months its taken me to renovate & kit out the 2 rooms I spend most of my time in. I've figured out the Dab, FM and Internet Radio (other streaming stuff like Spotify I'll figure out later), but I'm listening to CDs now. So there are some 30 CDs marked for re-evaluation. That means I've only given them a couple of plays since I got them and trying to decide what to keep. So far I've reviewed these: Danny Thompson - Whatever (keep) Bela Fleck & the Flecktones - eponymous (keep) Bert Jansch - When The Circus Comes To Town (keep) Hefner - Breaking God's Heart (leaving) Poi Dog Pondering - Electrique Plummagram (leaving) Its a relief to be able to listen to something other than me after all this time. I've reserved John Martyn for this evening.
  7. I had no idea he was so young. His enthusiasm should have been a clue though Thanks for letting us know BBP. What a dreadful waste.
  8. Its a modern version of the 1967 Chinese Embassy in London when the embassy diplomats came out brandishing clubs, bottles & iron bars threatening Police and journalists. They were also waving the 'little red books' and deliberately provoking trouble. The Chinese press presented this as their diplomats 'defending themselves' in the hostile west. This ended with the British legation in Beijing being sacked. Only this time they picked their high flyers to do it. The worst thing was the bobby who took the side of the provocateurs. He should be put on traffic control.
  9. Glad to see this has proved a proper Gibson anyway. Yes the matching Bigsby mod plaque fits the dealer special theory nicely. Nice guitar!
  10. I think Memphis ran from 1986 to 2017, so its in the right time frame. Maple leaf designs? Sounds odd, but could be a dealer special (Canada?). 'Custom made' is not how Custom Shop (or custom models) are described, so that is a mystery. What is really needed here is PICTURES. Meanwhile, look under the truss rod cover. The nut should resemble this
  11. Yes. The nationality of the objector is irrelevant to the point. It might not be perceived that way in the US, but this didn't happen in the US.
  12. I'm not much help either. Though I have a 1998 Gibson with this type of embossed logo (mine are 490 / 498s). I have not seen this on any recent Gibson (2014 onwards).
  13. Sorry you didn't get a prompt reply. Call Gibson Customer Service about this. Its the quickest surest way. - See bottom of this page for phone no. (call, dont e-mail)
  14. Agreed. I thought it was until you said that. I have seen tuning machine sets with staggered posts and seen them on guitars (but not Gibsons). I'm tempted to suggest that Gibson used some and misunderstood the manufacturer's intent. Seems unlikely, I know.
  15. I had not noticed but the USA SG special PU does look too close to me. That would likely give a harsher sound. The best thing would be to play these to compare. Maybe a YT influencer should do just that.
  16. The story would make no sense if it were censored in that way.
  17. The next level. Its no secret that I've been digital for many years now. Even the signal processors I've used look like giving way to micro units and pedals. My 1st SP was a Boss GT5 (1995). A friend got one to review and was seriously impressed. A couple of weeks later we were recording in a pro studio and they had one. I used it, and within a week I went and bought one. While it can still be used effectively (if you have the patience to program it), its no match for tech of the last few years. If I was still gigging I would likely consider retiring my amps and just use a small SP direct into the PA. The same unit would be just as suitable for home practice.
  18. I agree, but I didn't notice anyone claiming that on here. Did they?
  19. This might not figure in your thinking at all, but I used to have a guitar hanging in my dining / back living room. I never hung Gibsons or a nitro finish models (even though Hercules hangers should be safe). Frequently it was my MIC Hofner HCT17 that hung there. It looked great and it suited the room. Yes it got played but it also looked like it belonged there. Since you have 3 Epi Casino's, could the MIC one take the role of showpiece? Then it needn't cost anything. Your family could also see your MIC Casino when visiting. PS: I had to remove the guitars as later a radiator was sited and installed right under the hanger. I also recently redecorated and removed the hanger. I'm now keeping a guitar on a stand in the same room in a different position.
  20. I dont envy you with this one. I have sunk more money into a cheap guitar but I really liked that guitar. I'd hate for a family member to buy me a guitar. It sounds like you have already plans to spend more than the cost of the guitar.
  21. Do you think the Chinese objector's were acting appropriately then?
  22. All three examples would be considered an offensive weapon by the met police.
