  1. The Czech Built Jumo and Daimler powered Avia S-99 thru S-199 were built until 1949 mostly from left over parts, many were sold to Israel. I think if I worked at an historical establishment that resides in the UK, for simplicity I would prefer maintaining 109's with Merlins..
  2. Hispano Messerschmitt built after the war until 1954... HA-1109-J1L 1945 - the initial 25 Bf109 G-2 aircraft, from German production, with Hispano-Suiza 12Z-89 engines fitted, in lieu of Daimler-Benz DB 605A's, using VDM or Escher-Wyss propellers. Not used operationally. 25 built. HA-1109-K1L 1951 - first production of HA-1112-K1L. Fitted with a Hispano-Suiza 12Z-17 engine and a de Havilland Hydromatic propeller in an improved installation, this version appeared in May 1951 armed with two Hispano HS-404 20mm cannon and 80mm rockets. 25 conversions from a HA-1109-J1L. HA-1109-M1L prototype of HA-1112-M1L. A single aircraft modified with a Rolls-Royce Merlin 500-45 engine. One conversion from a HA-1112-K1L. HA-1110-K1L RR Merlin powered two-seat trainer version. Project only. HA-1112-M1L "Buchon" 1954 - the final variant fitted with a RR Merlin engine and armed with two Hispano HS-404 20mm cannon and 80mm rockets. Used operationally. 172 built. HA-1112-M4L Merlin engined two-seat trainer. Used operationally. One built and one conversion from a HA-1110-K1L.
  3. Beautiful guitar.. I am glad to see a renewed interesrest in Blues Hawks, I love mine. I wish they would make a Gibson Blues Hawk again...
  4. Oh no... The Nazi 109's got Merlins now... I know there were a few countries built Merlin powered 109's after the war.. Nice video.....
  5. Nothing like getting the tone of 60's style SG Special through a Marshall... Nice Review below... SG Special Review
  6. A time machine would be be fun, but you have to be ready to act on the next event that may be right in front of you..... Clothes are optional in places, on the Big Island there is still lots of coastline with very few people...... The previous image was at Hollywood Alley in Az with my SG X. Another band at a pavilion on the Hilo Bay Front with my LP Special DC.....
  7. That was a drip line for heavy rain, so the water coming off the corner of the house doesn't dig a hole...
  8. Actually Bill I wasn't naked. The photo was only down to my shoulders from the back with my guitar behind my head, it was actually just a demonstration on how light and easy an SG is to play... My typical uniform for the day, every day, is shorts an slippers all year around, nothing else is required.. But once in a while if I'm going to town I do wear more.. no more kettle or drip line but my SG X......................... 🙂
  9. I was was wondering if you were going to come up for air, after getting your new Gibsons.. I have a jam to go to this afternoon and trying to decide which guitar to play..
  10. I had just watched a 69 video of Gimme Shelter and I mis-identied Brian, who died that year, but was actually Mic Taylor.. Sorry my whole thing here went off on the wrong track...
  11. I think you may be right, Keith in 69 is primarily playing lead and Brian Jones is playing 2nd guitar which could be in G tuning..
  12. I think he may have used both at times, I'm sure he could any of them in standard tuning, but live, I would bet, he used the simplest way.. Remember my reference is to what he used in the mid 70's... Nothing is absolute, I was not told this by him but a mimic band... I tried it and it worked, back in the day...
  13. Stones open G tuning. Back in the day when this era of songs were new, I noticed that the club bands were not getting the full sound Kieth got playing songs like Gimmie Shelter, Brown Sugar, Honkytonk Woman and so on.. Until one day I heard a Stones cover band that members had roadied for them on one of their tours. Anyway the meat.. Kieths open G tuning, the E goes up to G an the A goes down to G, thats it, the rest of the strings are tuned standard (G G D G B E). Open bar cords are used a lot enhanced with an alternating Am7 pattern under them and the barred variations. Brown Sugar starts with, open G with B and E strings held down on the third fret creating a very full sounding G cord.. Its not rocket science but it sounds really cool. Oh yea, you have to transpose your bar cord thinking to a lower position like G is open A is 2nd fret, B is 3rd fret, C is 5th fret... Good luck..... It makes playing Stones songs much easier, specially songs like Can't You Hear Me Knocking.. You probably won't find reference to this, its Kieths secret.... There is a mention of D G D G B E.
  14. I'm in Hawaii we don't wear clothes here, its too f######g hot.. Very nice Navy Vet...
  15. Don't forget the Hurricane, which was Merlin powered, who's primary role was to take out the bombers and anything else that got in its way..
  16. Nice collection.. Note on the Blues Hawk if you pull up on the Master Tone control it defeats the rotary VariTone switch.. So you can have the VariTone set on a filter you like, you can go back and forth by lifting or pushing down on the Tone knob.
  17. Very cool new Gibsons, I like the colors, the Sparkling Burgundy and the Tangerine Burst... You may find that the Studio weighs less than your Junior... Enjoy.................
  18. The Immigrant Song - LZ, Free Fallin' - Petty, Hocus Pocus - Focus, Ticket to Ride - B, Shapes of Things - YB, Ain't Talking' Bout Love - EV, Come Together - B, I Got a Line on You - Spirit, She's Not There - Zombies, Signed DC - Love, Badge - Cream, Manic Depression - JH, White Room - Cream, Mister You're a Better Man Than I - YB, The Crystal Ship - Doors, Break Down - Petty, Love Me Two Times - Doors, Ziggie Stardust - Bowie, More Than A Feeling - Boston, All along The Watch Tower - Dylan...... I played these last Saturday at a regular jam in Edenroc, all works in progress and not necessarily by the book....
  19. I think you will find the SG Special will compliment your Junior. You have got a great start on your collection. I am a P90 addict, leaving humbuckings behind about 20 years ago, I have no regrets, just lots of tone.... I'll bet my 56 LP Standard weighs more than your junior, the mass + fat rounded C profile neck = tons of sustain........ But so heavy..
  20. My dad flew hundreds of hours training B-24 pilots with lots of harrowing experiences... He was not allowed to go over seas, if he had I might not have been born.. Each merlin powered aircraft produced its own unique sound. The P-51's gun barrels whistled adding to the sound of the Packard RR Merlin..
  21. My dad wanted to be a fighter pilot. When he was selected for B-24 school the thought of being responsible for the lives of his crew, scared him to death. So he really applied himself to his training. He scored so high in school that the AAF would not let him go over seas and kept him as a B-24 pilot instructor. Fortunately for me as the mortality rate of B-24 crews was so high.
  22. The lineage of the Spitfire...... The Supermarine S.6B below still holds the World Speed Record of over 407mph set in 1931 at the Schneider Trophy competition. Designed By R. J. Mitchell who later designed the Spitfire, when he felt the Germans were getting too rambunctious. Mitchell was obsessed with the Spitfire design, but he had it 99% done before he died from illness and exhaustion. The engineers at Supermarine were able to complete his efforts and started rolling out Spitfires using shops from all over England to produce components and final assembly. None too soon because the Germans came, en masse looking for a quick kill, but they didn't get it but found the Spitfire and Hurricane waiting for them... My Dad, a B-24 Pilot, had an S.6B model on his dresser including a Spitfire...
  23. I only got one thing to say.... I love 61 SG Specials.....
  24. I have been amazed at how young the pilots were that took part in "The Battle of Britain". Climbing into the cockpit of the most advanced aircraft of the time that Britain could produce, like the Hurricane and Spitfire. Most had very few hours of training and then to be cut loose behind the reins of a Rolls Royce Merlin to protect their homes. So much is owed to those young men, because if the Island Fortress had fallen the world would be a different place today.
