I'm probably not telling you anything new, P90's start out a little dirtier than humbuckers. If you listen the noise your Goldtop is generating and back off a bit of gain/ OD/ treble on your amp and effects settings while increasing the master volume. You may find you are getting as much drive as you humbuckers with higher settings. Also because your P90's are so hot, backing off on the guitars volume/ tone a bit will help as well. The Goldtop has plenty to spare.. If your amp is tweaked for your humbuckers, the settings may be overkill for your P90's.

You might like a Humbucker sized P90 in the neck position for cleaner tone, like a P94 or a P-Rails with hum cancelling, getting a cleaner bluesy driven sound..

The standard setup on a humbucking with a push/pull pot will shut off one coil leaving one coil active giving you a more bluesy Strat like sound. Where a P90 will have twice as many windings on a single coil adding volume and wider tone range with a little more edge.. The P-Rails has full sized P90 coil and a smaller coil that provides hum cancelling...

The push pull pots should work on P-Rails switching from noiseless P90's to straight P90's..

I experienced the era when almost everything ran on tubes and local grocers had a tube tester stand in the front of the store, usually provided by Sylvania, GE or RCA.. Tubes are tough, designed to survive adverse conditions.. What Saturn says is true .. Not much care required, but if you rely on your amp for woking gigs you may want want some spares.. They can be hard to find on a weekend.. Like kidblast said matched sets of power tubes are important, a new power tube can cause its older mate to burn too hot and die or vice versa.. Tubes can be become microphonic when they get old and collect burnt material visible in the glass if the socket is on top, if on the bottom not quite as noticeable.. Tubes can last for years, depending on how hard you push them, but the clock is ticking.. There are many manufacturers of high quality tubes for music amps, including custom tubes to modify your sound.. One of my Ampegs used 6 6550's, 2 matched sets of 3. Usually had to get 3 matched sets of 2..

I think if you can find a local amp repair guy and find out what he can fix or get parts for. Note that "get parts" usually means it will be down for a while.. My last Marshall was made in Mexico.. If you buy an amp with complex circuits, it could take a while to fix.. Old style amps, similar to Fenders, were not very complex relying on tubes to do most of the work, just need a few spares.. I would call the Blues Jr below, low tech simplicity at its best.. 🙂 Image from the web...

Remembering the early 70's and the almost UK super group "Gun".. The main players listed as Paul and Adrian Curtis with Louie Farrell, later identified as Paul and Adrian Gurvitz.. I saw them in Nuremberg in 1970 playing with T-Rex, Chicken Shack (with Christine Perfect) and Sam Apple Pie.. They were all using German Hesta amp full stacks, looked like Marshalls... Who later went on to form "Three Man Army" (Adrian and Paul Gurvitz, Buddy Miles, Carmine Appice, Mike Kellie and Tony Newman). ... and later the "Baker Gurvitz Army" with Ginger... A lot of good Ginger stuff in here... Ginger Baker, Adrian Gurvitz, Paul Gurvitz, Peter Lemer and Stephen Parsons

Kool guitar... So what you have is a Gibson Melody Maker All American II, which looks like an old Kahler fulcrum style tremolo which the bar could be metric.. some of the old stuff may have been taken over by Gotoh.. so if you do a search for Kahler tremolo parts you should find something that will work...

Because the 2019 Firebird Tribute has mini's, I think it makes it a "you better try it first" situation. Great looking guitar though.. sounded better in my headphones than I expected..

Yesterday, while playing my Explorer at my weekend jam, it seemed to be making a lot of noise, which it shouldn't because it has a reverse wound coil at the neck. So I switched to my Blueshawk and it was making noise too, which is very unusual.. So I started looking for another source and when I removed my Vox wha pedal, it stopped. Looks like my Vox pedal has succumbed to humidity induced oxidation and corrosion.. The last time this happened the battery connector was very corroded.. But that was a couple of years ago.. May be time for a new pedal... My P90's screamed for the rest of the day..

A 12AX7 is a power tube, 2 of them would indicate 2 X more power. A Fender Twin used 12AX7's for pre-amp and 6L6's for main power..

Not everybody hates them, I think you just been running with the wrong crowd... 🙂

Everyone should at least one Franken-Guitar. Mine with P94 style.. Humbucking sized GFS Dream 90's..
