(kids are just getting old enough, 11, 13 and 14)...  mowing is something they do now 🙂

My boys are in their twenties and I do not let them mow my lawn. They **** it up, so I do it myself. They leave little mohawks an undone patches.  I swear they do it on purpose.

I usually am a duct tape guy too. I spent 5 years in the British military and it used to be a standing joke that the army ran on Black Nasty (a brand of black duct tape that is used to hold everything together)

I was in the USAF, and I think I know exactly what tape you're talking about. I took a large spool of it home with me. Lasted me almost over 20 years. The glue stuck to everything. I ended up throwing it out because what was left was unusable.

I think the hole is 10mm - it certainly isn't 8.5mm anyway. Problem is, I don't really have an accurate or easy to use measuring device, just a tape measure which isn't really any good for small distances. Anyway, I have ordered some genuine, replacement Klusons from ebay and in the meantime, I managed to jury-rig the broken one with a hammer and some superglue. Seems to be holding so far.

I'm a duct tape man myself, but I am glad to see your alumni from the same college of engineering as I am.

  4. I have a 2019 Standard and they put a piece of felt on the nut. I was pleasantly surprised. First Lester I ever bought to have that. If not, I wouldn't have given two shitz if the little mar was there,  thats because the gitfiddle sounds awesome and that little dent didn't matter.

The OP asked a simple question and a few people answered it, but this thread got high jacked by an argument about weight-relief "tone".  Too bad.

My 2012 Traditional is better than any Standard I ever had. I thought I wouldn't lIke the 50s neck, but it's the same width at the nut as my 4 60s slim tapers, so it's fine. I say try both -- Standards and Traditionals.  Ignore the "weight-relief" "Experts".

If that discussion was happening today, I would agree with you 110%. However, since Gibby is under new management and they are retooled, I could compare the new Standards to the Transitionals of the past and say the new Standards are as good if not better that them. If you haven't played a new Standard yet, ya gotta take a test drive. 🙂

  6. The pup covers can be replaced very easy and its inexpensive using Gisbon original parts. Call Gibson Customer Service and they will hook you up. The mar on inlay is a different story... if it were me I could let it slide. That's were you need to make the call, because I think you may have a hard time finding a deal like you got there.

  7. The pickups, feel of the neck, and the craftsmanship. I just couldn't get the tone I wanted. I think I may have got a lemon. I bought it brand new for just over $900. I couldn't figure out why it was so cheap. It was my first American Standard.

The American Performer is spot on, exactly what I wanted.

sorry?   why? 🙂 I have 2014 (Sienna Burst)  Great guitar.  You'll probably like the Fat 50s pickups.

I had the same as yours, color and all. Not as nice as Larry's I'm sure. I just couldn't bond with mine. Swapped the pups to noiseless, pearloid pickguard, locking tuners... I sold it almost two years ago and got the new American Performer Series, we get along great. We have a baby coming in August.
