Elitist Casino vs. Lennon sig Casino?

I know you are not looking for a sermon here, so I apologize, but...

Guitars are like people, they are all individuals and need to be judged as such. Just like you can't say orientals are smarted than caucasians, you can't say Lennons are superior to Elitists (or vs versa). When I bought Ruby, I was not looking to buy a guitar, but I saw a sunburst Casino like McCartneys on the wall, picked it up and played it, but the sound was dull and it did not play well. As I hung it up, I noticed the red one next to it almost glowing (the same exact model, from the same factory, could have come off the line next to each other). As I played the first chord, it rang like chimes from heaven. While it needed a set up to play perfectly, it had a great neck. I had to buy it.

You could A-B an Elitist and a Lennon and still not know anything except which individual guitar was better. I just responded to a thread yesterday from someone who bought a Matsumoku Casino off the internet and was not thrilled with the purchase. My advise on guitar buying is always the same. Don't be in a hurry, pick up guitars and inspect/ play them. When you find one that you can't bring yourself to put back on the wall, buy it! Life's too short to play average guitars.

God bless, Spamonkis

To tag on to Spamonkis post, I started a thread just last week about doing an A/B about refreshing my Korean LP or buying a Tribute +.

Every review online and every T+ owner says that their T+ is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I played one in a local store, and honestly, it was a dog... a three legged dog... with one ear.... and fleas. [biggrin]

Dude, If it was the first Epi I ever played I'd believe all the hype about how BAD Epi's are...

Why so bad? The tech who set it up did a horrible job. The intonation was so off, it was unplayable. The other thing that really irked me was the knobs were so crooked, that pulling the knob out looked so off that I thought I broke it.

So is a Tribute + a piece of junk? Of course not, but the guy who set it up was either a noob or hungover at the time.

My point here is that just like Spomonki said, the guitar you see in the ad or up on the wall could be sent down from heaven by Les Paul himself... but ultimately our (the consumer's) first impression of the quality of the brand will be tainted by the knucklehead who opened the box at your music store.

All that said, I have a 2005 Casino... Not the Lennon or the Elite. The "cheap" one.

The thing kicks more but than a barroom brawl in a cowboy movie. I love it to death!

Right, but hopefully people know not to judge a guitar by it's set up. That can be changed in minutes. If I was a manager at a music store, I'd see that all the guitars were kept properly set up, wiped down often, and strings changed before they got gross. In a perfect world...

My first casino was the std natural , I got it about 4 months ago, great guitar.

last week I pulled the trigger and brought the Lennon inspired casino - sunburst, made a change to a gotoh bridge and its a sweet sounding and looking guitar. The inspired one just fits better and the volume knobs kick in much better than my natural.

If I had the choice again I'd have gone with the Lennon and perhaps! I'd have been satisfied with it?

The elitist here in New Zealand was just too expensive,

Note this is just my opinion but Epiphone really improved the IBJL Casinos from the first run to the one produced after mid 2011. The first run had the wrong color burst, the f holes were painted and unplugged they sounded tbe same as a standard. The ones after 2011 had the correct burst, no paint on the f holes and the finish seemed to be a bit thinner giving a better acoustic tone and much closer to the Elitist in sound. Lile I said this is my opinion after playing several IBJL models and Elitist.

Has anyone A/B`d them? How about the Korean made ones?

Thanks!

I've got a 2005 Standard (Korean) and a 2010 Elitist. I play them primarily through an AC-15H1TV and they're very different. The Standard feels like the neck is narrower in addition to being thinner. It's lighter then the Elitist too. The tone, both acoustically and amped is could be described as tinnier and deader, it doesn't sound bad, but it doesn't seem to sustain like the Elitist. The Elitist has a much fuller tone, although the highs seem slightly muted compared to the standard. The Elitist is more modern in tone, the Standard sounds more "vintage". Quality wise I've had switch and jack issues with the Standard. Had them both replaced with Switchcraft and no more problems. The Standard holds its tune better. In the end, I play the Standard more - I just like the feel and tone more.
