Scott0
the last step in my *casino lights out* project is getting the frets dressed and a killer set-up beyond anything i can do here. operating out of hollywood, i can take the guitar to any number of highly regarded luthiers, a couple of which have the plek machine and know how to use it properly. others are legendary for their hands-on skills. is it 6 or a 1/2 dozen here? p.s., it's funny luthier is considered a typo on a guitar forum! capmaster
PLEKing a guitar is basically always a good idea, and also sensible without refretting as long as the frets will have a reasonable life expectancy left. However, it also is a good idea to bring and keep the neck curvature to the desired shape before since deviations of woods with time will affect the endurance of the result. This is, by the way, what I think is the greatest part of the PLEK job to be done at the factory, making brand-new fretboards and truss rod adjustments on a brand-new guitar to achieve a result that will be stable in the long run. And, as for my Gibsons and Fenders which came factory PLEK'd, it definitely works. There clearly is the same difference compared to conventionally dressed frets after up to more than two years in my cases. Whatever people may say, there are huge corporate knowlegde and experience at the big guitar manufacturers.

rct
appreciated. this points out my thoughts also, while plek'ing guitars on the assembly line has proven solid, i've yet to dig up anything on the value on the process being used on old guitars Some people like to make pasta, some people buy it in a box. Some people like people to give their guitars fret jobs, some people like a machine to do it. It really is 6 of one and 6 of the other. rct

bill67
How much does that cost?
6string
How much does that cost? When I called Wolfe Guitars in Jupiter they quoted me $195 for the Plek and a complete setup. I'm going to have them do my reissue Sorrento just so I can see what it's like.
Scott0
It worked on this 46 year old Barney Kessel model. xcllnt, thank you! his issues mimic the issues i have with this casino, it doesn't play (for me) as well as my others. the software i use grades my performances and on this guitar i can't ever score near what i score on the others. i'm hoping to solve that. hilm3
I had my 1971 SG PLEK'd a year ago, along with a neck repair. The frets were original and pretty worn, but plenty of meat left so we did not refret. It plays ridiculously well. The action can actually go lower than where I set it. Nice wide and fairly low frets. I have to wear brass knuckles so I do not play too fast ;o) PLEKing made an already awesome guitar magical. Had it done in LA - Westwood Music. crust
I'm quite interested in how the before and after will be on the Sorrento. Please keep us informed and a review.

Gunner
I have a couple of guitars that are PLEK'd. I think a good luthier could do just as good a job, so then it would just come down to cost.
