onewilyfool
This may be par for the course for these bows, I don't know, but I immediately thought to myself…."what kind of Vintage J-45 I could get for $6K?" http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/msg/4503315121.html
L5Larry
A violin makers friend of mine told me in many cases the bow is worth more than the instrument.
RichG
A violin makers friend of mine told me in many cases the bow is worth more than the instrument. True. Our son was a bass player and the bow cost about the same as the bass. I guess he still is a bass player, he just doesn't play it.
zombywoof
I used to play a lot of blues fiddle and know that it is not uncommon to spend more on a bow than the instrument. I know a couple of guys who would not even balk at that price for a bow. Then again, they also spent years choosing an instrument. I am waiting on a bow right now that is being made by a friend. He actually stopped building fiddles and bows years ago but said he would come out of retirement just long enough make me one.
retrorod
Maybe I need to look into bow-making as a side-job instead of guitar and amp repair... dollar-wise......mmmmmm! Does not sound as 'varied' or 'fun' however... It can't be ALL ABOUT the money
Tman
The frog is engraved though. That pretty much clinches it.
Kaiser Bill
L5 Larry...I had that experience when I tried to sell a violin. I was really up against it, and thought my Jacobus Steiner copy was probably worth $100-$150. The dealer said he would give me $35 for the violin and $150 for the bow....SOLD!!!!!!
