NGD fail #4 - Les Paul Custom

Confirmed B-Stock? At full price?

For me it would be, 1. return guitar; 2. get full refund; 3. take a breather and think it all through.

That's just me, though.

Good luck.

EE

Full price until the dealer could prove it was B stock.

Well, I for one, am astounded, that a Gibson Les Paul Custom (of any finish color)

would leave the fatory floor, in that condition, much less make Final Inspection!

Truly Amazing! [scared]

Are you sure they're not "Fakes?!" [flapper][biggrin]

Very, very, SAD!! [crying]

CB

From viewing the pictures I say it's genuine.

A fake might be more well-made. [unsure]

In case it has a poly finish, this is very likely, but I doubt that for nitro.

[cursing] Yeah, could very well be, especially these days! They seem to

get better at it, all the time. Kind scary! [unsure]

CB

Scary indeed. In some countries, workers still seem to put lots of patience and diligence into their work.

Of course it's genuine. It was a joke,

EE

Sorry, no offense intended. [blush] I had got that but found interesting to quote it including the following posts, so I did. [unsure] Well, CB tried to get out something humorous out of this bad situation, and this matches my personal style, too. I also perceived CB's emoticons [scared][rolleyes][biggrin]

So may I think the fakers are unable to fake the shortcomings of B stock guitars adequately? [scared][biggrin]

[lol]

LOL, I don't think they'd even want to? And, Gibson doesn't DO "B-stock!" They're supposed

to destroy those, before they leave the factory. At one time, they did sell them to employees,

but I'm not sure that's still the case. Some, maybe too many, were getting into the hands of

the general public...cheap! So, I think they just decided to destroy them!

Has it occurred to anybody that in 40 years' time, the Gibson Custom Shop will be replicating abominably bad binding scraping so as to look like the original, vintage models of 2014?

=D>

You know, much as I hate to even think of that, it wouldn't surpise me, in the least! [biggrin]

Taking measurements, making photos, using an MRI, so as to replicate the Terror, accurately.  [lol]

And, let's not forget, charging a hefty premium, for it, in the process! [scared]

First, you're comparing very, very basic construction techniques to the complexity of musicianship. Apples and oranges.

Your comments about "great craftsmanship" are just plain naive In this context. In the $4000 range, look at Collings guitars and you will unfailingly find "top quality instruments made with a personal touch."

Finding a well-crafted guitar in the standard "Gibson USA" range these days is the exception, rather than the norm.

Respectfully,

EE

Amen [thumbup]

Lol CB. EE the dealer is Long and Mcquade. The biggest dealer for Canada.

They could check stock at another location, the staff could check it for you and perhaps some pics. They will also do transfers.

The dealership I have always dealt with is the largest in canada. They are truly amazing. There are 5 2013's in the main warehouse. That's where the two B stock came from.

Now Gibson has got back to me. The first time telling me to contact the master distributed in Canada. For those of you who do not know once a Gibson crosses the Canadian border it is no longer covered by Gibsons lifetime warranty. So I responded with " not a warranty issue , I would like to know all the why's and also what challenges the silverburst may cause the workmanship. Here's what I was told.

Hi Matt,

In a nutshell the custom shop product specialist replied that the binding has to be scraped after the finish is applied, metallic finish is very thick and it will leave a ledge when the binding is scraped.

Hmmmm,

So what's changed ? Now truth be told I've never held a custom silverburst besides the four mentioned, So maybe that's the territory you come to expect ? Well enough of this. I'm bringing this 2014 back to the dealership and getting my hard earned dollars back. I've reached out to every owner / seller of this model the past three days and asked them to look over it. Nothing. Not a clue what I'm speaking of. So I made a pretty good deal with a respectable seller who has a 2007 custom silverburst with an ebony board. I'll save $1300 bucks and buy a new amp.

This has put a bit of a chip on my shoulder with Gibson. Some argue that a custom is inflated as is and with the richlite negativity I can only imagine sales are down. I am disappointed with what they are using as an excuse to justify craftsmanship. But hey maybe I'm wrong and they are all like this. Well, I'll find out in two weeks when I hopefully get the guitar I've always wanted and with an ebony board no less!!!!

Did you send the pictures to Gibson? Because that looked more than just scraping issue on the binding. I am curious now to go look at some silverburst custom's, to see if it is an issue. Maybe Gibson should stop offering that colour I guess.

Hope your 2007 turns out to be the one for you.

If you think this is bad try getting a new Fender... You don't even want to know the issues they are having with many of their lines/runs...

I still think Gibson is the best in the world even if nothing is perfect...

Anyway it's great to hear things are working out! Please be sure to post pics and demo vid of the "new" axe after it arrives!
