Isn't this an oxymoron?

it's the short term for it. if you look at the Gibson model numbers they use that as part of it. the guitars also have it stamped in the control cavity.

for example, LPR9VOITNH1 would be a VOS 59 reissue Les Paul in iced tea with nickel hardware.

it's much easier to type R9 or R7 than it would be to type out a longer name for it.
