Fullmental Alpinist
Just watched this on demand , the guitar was claimed on TV as Elvis Presley's 1956 J200 original guitar . It was brought on and collected by a security guard . He played his wonderful song Alison , Well, here's the scoop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRIYdDzNfp0 It is apparently the real Elvis J-200. While the security guard is missing from this video, the woman sitting to the left of Elvis Costello is the real Priscilla Presley. John Lennon fans might prefer Costello's other version of Alison (also on the same show but in 2013 or earlier): Skip to 5:03. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwTrCecfdPg
Mickthemiller
Elvis Costello played Elvis Presley J200 on the Jonathan Ross show on UK TV tonight. I did it from my phone in a hurry - it should have been "Elvis Costello played Elvis Presley's J200 on the Jonathan Ross show on UK TV tonight." That predictive text took over and got a bit awkward about the ('s apostrophe s) - Yes it was the Elvis J200 - I read later that Scotty Moore had it refurbished about 1960 - the fingerboard inlay and the pickguard - Priscilla agreed it was worth a million (and the rest). I'd wager it is priceless. I also saw that Gibson did some reissues of this guitar.I don't want one though - don't reckon much to the bling or the pickguard. Elivis Costello joked about his guitar with his name on the neck (Fender Jazzmaster) and the fact that you can find pawn shop guitars once owned by failed musicians who had their name put on the neck and then never found fame. jannusguy2
So weird. I was playing Allison when I stopped to visit the forum and clicked on this thread. The clip with the J160 reminds me of why I passed on more than one. But it's always nice to see E.C. Thx for posting..
Fullmental Alpinist
Ouh, pliiis no, Aaron. . Oh yeah, EM-7, Elvis was being heckled throughout the show by a guy in the audience. At one point Elvis broke a string so he wound up and chucked that beautiful guitar at the guy's head. In the end Elvis won: the guitar was intercepted by a woman also in the audience who later sold it at auction for $55k. The heckler got nothing....
