Acoustic Guitar Review of HB Vintage

Joe M

Recommended Posts

The recent issue of Acoustic Guitar has a very nice review of the HB Vintage. Says all the things that we owners have been saying for a while. I know that most reviews in any guitar mag are usually slanted because of advertising worries (read, don't piss off any manufacturer), but it still was a nice review. Only negative was the picture they had of the guitar, didn't look sunburst at all, more of a dark brown. [confused]

Check it out if you get a chance, especially you HB Vintage owners.

So .... where's the review, is there a link ?

I fully agree with you about the review approach - whenever i hear reviews coming from acoustic guitar magazine it sounds painfully like they were reading from a script, which im sure they were. I dont feel they are really saying what they are truly thinking but reading what the marketing rep gave them to read. Infact, I dont ever recall a negative review of a product from those guys. I subscribed for many years to the magazine, but stopped couple years ago.

Eh, it'll be all right! You probably have too many J-45s anyway! :)

Ya know Jesse I'm think'n you can't have too many guitars let alone J45's I haven't played my Martin J40 or SJ200 all year.

It's not an easy thing to cull the heard but economics may demand some action to gain my first square shoulder Gibson [crying]

I reckon get rid of one of the J-45's and the J-40 and youre just about ready for a HB Vintage.

Uh huh. And so you'll buy a Hummingbird and the J-45s will suffer the same fate, consigned to the cases for months on end. #-o I'm tellin' ya.......one is enough. Think of all the room in the house freed up, the freedom from the stress caused by indecision as to what to play today, the money you'd save in string purchases. Simplify your life, grasshopper.

Buc my mind knows you are indeed correct. My heart is very resistant to makeing a choice.. So there are many cases at my house that long for attention ........constantly.........at this point it's a delightful dilemma I can indulge for a little while until mind or heart prevails.

As my favorite guitar player once said "All things must pass" [biggrin] of course he also said

"Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream"

Of course we could go with Big Kahuna "life is short buy the guitar" [scared]

Excuse me, but I'm afraid that was said by two different writers. And interestingly enough two guitar-players, who represent each side of the line.

The first quote belongs to a keen collector. The second is from a man that bonded strongly with his early J-160E, which was played for almost a decade.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

But Buc - I tend to disagree. At least two acoustics are necessary. For practical and also spiritual reasons.

On the philosophical level, one question comes up : Why make life simple ?

It is really hard... I have gotten pretty good at talking myself down, but I just bought one in August! Oh well. One day at a time. I think I have just told myself I can get an electric instead since they don't count... I don't think I can part with any of mine, so hopefully that is enough to keep me from buying anything else. I am probably going to move on to a six-string banjo, an oude (can't even spell it), a Gibson electric... oh man...... help me.

All very true! And even John eventually began guitar surfing a bit. While he spent a lot of time with the J-160E and Epiphone Casino, he also had some time with a Martin D-28 and even got bit by the Ovation bug.

Em7 you are correct as to authors of the phrases. 1 a song 1 a lyric, however George used both phrases in a VH1 interview explaining the difficulty in controlling ones emotions. That was my context [biggrin]

Because life is difficult enough without further, self-inflicted bullshit. Now if we all lived in Atlantis amongst the poets, the magicians and the other so-called gods.........

Yes, hehe, , , The Acoustic Monk of course sees.

But he also thinks it's a privilege to boil down the bull for then sometimes to be able to choose the right complexities.

With what shall I play today - the green wheel red or the red wheel green bus.

Both !

, , , but here is my favorite ~ FB%20-%20Coast%20to%20coast%20%20Board.jpg

Ouh, the Fugelsang tv-session. That's entertaining and good stuff from late in Harrisons life.

As I recall it he plays a D-35 at some point. Maybe even All Things Must Pass.

And you are probably right both lines could very well be lifted out of the Tibetan Book of The No Longer Breathing.
