jdgm
Alas - the death has been announced of organist and multi-instrumentalist Joey Defrancesco at the young age of 51. He was in the tradition of Hammond organ players who play the bassline with their feet on the bass pedals while handling the two organ keyboards. And he was damn good at it. Here he is swinging like crazy in 1996 with the late great Elvin Jones - Coltrane's drummer - and John Mclaughlin on a 1978 Johnny Smith with Bigsby. What a groove!

Whitefang
Never heard of him until I bought this CD. Whew! His organ playing BLEW! ME! AWAY!! Sure is a BIG loss for music. Rest In Peace, Joey. Whitefang Edited August 27, 2022 by Whitefang
jaxson50
In the jazz world he was well known, a child prodigy who at age 16 was invited to join Miles Davis, who was at that time the biggest name in Jazz. Joey was a one man band, piano, keyboards, Hammond B3, Trumpet, Tenor Saxophone. RIP Joey, thanks for sharing your gifts with us mortals.
